Squeaky Clutch when depressed!
Hey guys! 2014 frs, recently I noticed when I depress the clutch when the car is stopped (turned off) there is that annoying squeak at the end when the clutch is fully pressed. The sound is only there at the end of the travel, cant hear it when the car is on.
Went through other forums, you guys think its the TOB? car is 49K km. Thanks! |
Yup, took mine a few weeks of hard driving to finally explode lol. Dropping the transmission is pretty straight forward, but if you're paying a shop might as well put a clutch in while it's all apart.

☝🏽️☝🏽☝🏽oh yea check that first

Mine squeaks when I fully press the clutch in, but it is definitely in cabin squeak. I think it is something in the clutch pedal assembly like a spring or lever joint.

It's likely where the slave cylinder piston pivots in the clutch fork, or inside the trans where the clutch fork meets the transmission ball pivot. Both of those points have grease, and there's tons of people on this forum who start to have a squeaky pedal around 20k miles, myself included.
If it was throwout bearing I'm pretty sure you'd hear it when the car is on, from what I've read. (I've verified with an automotive stethoscope that I had noise from the slave, AND from the clutch fork pivot point inside the tranny) |

TL;DR you likely just need some lube on the fork. |
Thanks for the replies!
I def hope its the fork! Ill give it a dab and try! |
So I was able to grease the part outside the tranny. Do I need to lube inside the tranny where the fork sits?

I don't know if it's possible to sneak in there without taking out the transmission or not. I suggest you review some threads to try to find out if it is possible. Back-in-the-day I used to ....... NEVERMIND (you just might get oil on the clutch disk....:(). Meanwhile, I'll put out a APB for anyone that can help. APB - clutch fork lubrication info needed.............:thanks: humfrz |

Detach the slave cylinder so you can remove the boot between the clutch fork and bell housing. You do not have to mess with the hydraulic hose. Leave that alone. The backside of the fork pivots against a pin just inside the bell housing. You can reach back there and feel it. Get a gob of grease in there with your finger, a coat hanger, whatever. Reinstall the boot. You can't get any deeper without dropping the trans. Now being careful to keep the slave piston from falling out, remove the boot and rod from the cylinder. lube the piston-facing side of the pin and reinstall the boot. Get a dab of grease in the top pivot of the clutch fork and reinstall the cylinder. |

Just how much do you push the clutch in with the car shut off that the noise is "annoying" anyway? |
Just don't push in the clutch when you're not driving.....
how is that even a complaint ? |

What are you trying to do ....... put some of us out of business ...... ?? :D humfrz |

Engineering fail. I am disappoint. |
The issue isnt so much I press the clutch while im not driving its just knowing that it does that. If it becomes a larger problem down the road, id rather deal with it now.
|
For OP's info, THIS is what my dealer did. Pretty much, they replaced many things inside of the bell housing and then ended up the noise wasn't from there. They lubed the clutch fork mentioned in this thread and that got rid of the noise. Been 9 months since then and still no sign of the noise.
So, it might worth trying it first. info here |
So i took my car to the dealer, they did some lubrication and cleaning of the fork/clutch assembly, they disconnected the slave apparently. Its now not always making the squeak lol. Ill probably bring it back sometime soon ... I just hope its not the bearing
|
It may be more than just parts needing lube. I brought mine in for the same issue and the dealer tried lubricating everything first. That didn't fix the issue, so I took it back in.
Here's what they ended up doing to actually fix it: http://i.imgur.com/FEVkrlm.jpg?1 |
Ever since I removed the boot near the slave and lubed up inside there last year the squeak comes and goes once and a blue moon. Most of the time the clutch will be silent and smooth with only some noise and roughness in certain weather conditions.
|
@Kinickie the description of your issue sounds just like mine. How much did they charge you?

Took my car Last year for this issue, dealer change all the components of the clutch and lubricate everything.. now the squeak came back!.... Super fun :barf: and my car is off warranty now.

Is this the noise we are talking about? Mine just started doing this. 2015 BRZ, 33,000 miles. The noise is coming from the bell housing area. The video makes it sound awfully loud, but this was in a closed garage with the door open and the hood up. In real life it isn't as obvious. |
