5th gear grind

Hey guys,

I have searched relentlessly on this and it seems like people are getting their whole transmission replaced? Does anyone know if it could be the transmission mods that could be a problem too? I've only got the whiteline transmission shift kit and mtech shift springs installed and have had my OEM oil changed to martini full synthetic. Whats strange is that i didn't notice any grind prior to these mods and only put these on due to the side to side play that this gearbox has. Has anyone had any experience with it? I've got the 2015 GT86 btw. It only happens when im shifting really fast and driving aggressively also eg. heel toe and rev match 5th to 4th to overtake then getting back into 5th. All other gears are perfectly smooth, only getting into 5th from 4th.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Remove parts and see if it still occurs. If not then you have your answer.

What raven said. And if it still occurs, take it to the dealer and get it replaced.
Under warranty. For Free.

Stop forcing gears, learn to shift smoothly during heel-toe. Sounds like your jamming it into place, probably have been for awhile but the new mounts are giving you more feedback. Id try shifting using just the base of your palm, very light pressure just allowing the shifter to go through the gates. And stop being so hard on the up shift, 1-4 are triple-synchro, 5-6 are single. It's not a dog box you can't just ram it into gear. :burnrubber:(safely)👍🏽👍🏽

You want to break that short throw hard shift habbit, grab the shifter at the base, you'll be forced to ease it in gear and not throwing it hard in gear

WELCOME to posting to the forum, Hugo ........

Welp, IMHO you have "messed" with the transmission quite a bit ...... and now you are slamming it around ....... and wonder why it's not working too good ... ??

Like mentioned above, I'd suggest you take all that crap off of it and shift normal and see if that doesn't help ..... ;)

So before i saw your replies, i called my mechanic and ask for his advice and went for a few test drives today and yesterday and tried many things before i was certain to take the parts out and make sure it wasn't me. eg making sure clutch was fully depressed, changing shifting style and I think you guys were right, it was how i was shifting.. funny how the mounts give me more feedback and i had to alter the style of shifting! No more grinds so far... touch wood and hope i don't jinx the tranny.. lol

Thanks for everyones input! Much appreciated!
