+10hp or -10 hp

My FRS is basically stock, all I have is an Exhaust, Intake, but sometimes I feels like my car has gained more than 10 hp, but sometimes I feel like I've lost 10 hp. Like it's different every other day. Would a tune help with this situation?

Probably gained or lost 2hp, nowhere near 10 though..

You need a tune if you actually want to take advantage of mods.

When you say exhaust, what do you mean? Cat-back? Header-back? Straight front pipe? If you have a header, what do you have? If you've swapped the OEM header for a catless header, you would greatly benefit from a tune.

If it's a cat-back that you threw on for a better sound, you will still benefit from a tune, just not as much.

The almighty butt dyno is a tricky beast. For a catback exhaust you don't need a tune. If you have a full cold air intake you probably want to get a tune or at least scale your MAF sensor by editing your ECU yourself. Most places doing a tune would be able to account for that and if you tune it yourself there are lots of helpful tips in the software tuning section. Tuning/scaling your MAF opens a whole different can of worms so best to read up a lot before picking an option.

There are a lot of variables that will affect throttle response and other factors that can change on a daily basis making the car feel faster or slower: Intake air temps, Gas quality, warm/cold tires having/not having grip, engine up to operating temp.

sounds like you need more stickers.

But a tune is a great start:

It will depends on how you drive too.
if you drive 30mph with 4th gear,,ofcus its not going faster.
OFT will help.

Why did you modify the intake and exhaust in the first place as the result may have shifted your powerband.

My butt dyno tells me this car doesn't like hot humid days.

  • That's probably to most realistic butt dyno result ever reported!:thumbsup:

Shove all them air in those piping xD lol jk jk

Seriously, posts above pretty much covers it. Intake and "exhaust".. could of shifted your power band, tuning those mods would help response or use them to potential. Lower gear better torque, watch out when to shift too.. that torque dip is still there if you didn't swap headers or have force induction. Yes, temperature matters too, better in cold because more cold air concentration for your intake to.."TAKE IN/IN TAKE?" <-- see what I did there?

I reckon that is within standard deviation for the signal between your butt dyno and your brain ...... ;)

I know for a fact that my car gains 10HP every time I wash it. The handling improves as well.

Yep, I feel that too.

Mine picks up at least 30 HP, if mrs humfrz isn't riding with me, ...... even after I figure in the weight difference........:D

+/- 10HP sounds like you're just feeling the torque dip.

I notice it if I'm full throttle as I pass the 3.5-4.5K RPM area (i.e. when traffic slows me down to 10mph in 2nd and then clears up). Otherwise, under partial throttle, I don't really notice it.

Maybe thats it?

Or has your weight been fluctuating? :P
