Power lag in 2nd gear. Sporadic revs at idle
Just got the car. 30,000km. 12,000 miles or so. My idle bounces all over the place especially when cold. From 200-1500. Also everytime i shift to 2nd no matter what rpm im at it lags so bad. Like it struggles miserably for 2 seconds then kicks it. Kinda ruins the experience. Anybody know if these are recalls or issues the dealer can fix for free? Reprog the ecu or something?
|
First thing I'd try is disconnecting batteries over night, let it relearn. If issue so persist get or borrow an obd2 reader and diagnose the car. Still not working? Send it to an auto shop for (maybe free if theyfeel like taking a quick look) estimate/check (if you want to know for sure the problem, send to toyota they'll be more than happy to take your money).
I've seen something similar too this, if the car was mod than returned to shock to sell and they forgot to reflash to stock tune, engine will have a hard time.. such as your issue, from what you're saying it looks like it's in loop mode. BTW I doubt it's a defect, just saying.. |

take it to the dealer. |
Take it to the dealer. This is what warranty is for

The lag sounds like torque dip. LOL
Maybe JK. |
Sounds like shitty mawds, a dirty air filter or throttle body, a clogged or busted line somewhere, maybe even a DI seal failure. Could be anything. If you don't know how to check for those things a trip to the dealership it will have to be, good luck.

Bahah. Not the torque dip no. Its just when im initially in second gear. As if the gear slips a bit then catches. The car hasnt had an aftermarket tune. And yeah i can do it all myself. But everything looks good. Ive read on other pages the issue and there was apparently a dealer re flash. Not a recall but they recognize the issue and re programmed it to fix.

if the idle RPM jumps around, you might have air pockets in your cooling system. try bleeding it and see if it helps.
|
Did you buy used car? I would start with checking the MAF sensor from the intake, and all intake pipe connection for leak. Also check the intake box and element, maybe you have some foreign element in there.
|
If you remove maf sensor wear gloves. Many members somehow have messed theirs up.
Clean throttle and check intake. Tighten it up. |
Yes its used. Aftermarket intake, headers and exhaust. So the dealer was aware of the issue and apparently there is some new software for the rough idle. They downloaded it. Havent stallled since but its still odd. Ill check alll the intake connections. Believe i have some sensor cleaner at home too.

Problem solve Ned a retune lol probably that header
|
Yah always i have read that injen air intakes cause a sputtery idle and stalling 50% of the time, whn not ran with a tune. Any recommended tunes? Is it cheaper to buy plug and play or go to a tuner shop
|
Nuuu Nuuu nu its not the intake lol. I'm running injen CAI right now with a cat back no issues from that because i keep factory header, planning to go with Works turbocharger soon than I'll get their ecu tuning. The issue is you have an aftermarket/performance header which increase air flow in your engine, it's more air than the ECU can know what to do with so it tries to compensate by throwing in more gas. So you idle roughly and power isn't constant on the throttle.
Factory header =Factory tune so it does what is intended to do, but aftermarket header+ factory tune= more than ecu can handle in factory spec. Like getting alignment after you swap for aftermarket coilovers, new item needs new setting to make it run normal or better Hope this explanation put tuning into prospective There's many tuner check it out via Google 😊 after tuning it soul is run Nuuu problem |
