+1

The financial forum that I am on does this.. people type keywords or w/e into the search box and essentially redirects to google using site:"site" + keyword...

Basically what we tell newbies to do manually.

All of the forums I am a part of built using vBulletin have trashy search functions.

Basically, I agree. I find myself always typing "site:ft86club.com [keywords]" into Google and loving it.

Yeah, I don't want to bash on the native search tool. Search algorithms are a world unto themselves. It's just that the google widget is available and works great.

edit: maybe it's about $$$. Hmmmm...

You guys are all implying that people will actually attempt to search on their own anyway. Experience says otherwise.

There's a significant percentage of folks who try using the native search tool and give up, frustrated. For them the main stumbling block is knowing how to use the site parameter. It's not intuitive.

Ya but can't they search how to search? If they can't do that then maybe we need a how to search, the search how to search, search.
