Front Pipe Torque Specs/DIY
Hey everyone, I've tried giving the forum a solid search along with some site:ft86club.com searches, but I can't quite find a full on guide.
In any case, I plan on picking up a front pipe in the next week or so, torn between Motiv and Berk HFC pipes. I just wanted to see if anyone had a DIY for the install. It seems pretty straightforward, and I've found torque specs on the forum, but the service manual/torque spec thread refers to "Exhaust FR" and "Exhaust CTR" bolts which is where I'm a little fuzzy on. Anyone care to chime in? :burnrubber: |
just get the bolts as tight as you can. no need to worry over torque specs. I am guessing exhaust FR refers to the over pipe to front pipe connection (AKA front or front right) and CTR refers to the bolts that connect to the mid pipe (AKA center).

If I were to guess ...... I'd guess FR=Front Right and CTR=Center ......:iono:
Heck, make sure the flanges are lined up straight and tighten each side a little at a time till they are tight (exhaust pipe bolt tight) with a hand held box end wrench. If it leaks ..... you didn't torque it enough ....... if you twist off the bolts/nuts ..... you torqued it too much ....... ;) Hell, over the years, if I would have spent the time grabbing and using a torque wrench for everything I have tightened ......... I'd still be working on my FIRST car.......... humfrz - needs a pill ...... :slap: |
32 ft-lbs on the 2 nuts that connect the Front Pipe to the Over Pipe.
37 ft-lbs for the Front Pipe hanger bolt. 13 ft-lbs on the 2 nuts that connect the Front Pipe to the Center Pipe. These are torque specs for the OEM nuts/bolts. Shouldn't be that much different than the hardware that will be included with your Front Pipe of choice. It will depend mainly on the rating of the provided hardware. Or you can Google the size of your nuts/bolts, thread-pitch, and strength rating to find torque charts that provide the recommended torque values. __________________________________________ projekt zeal86 build zeal.eightsix Facebook Instagram | zeal.eightsix |
Thanks for the info, guys!
I guess it's more so because I'm pretty OCD about torque specs. Back during my cycling days, I used to strip bolts left and right on my bikes. Now I just prefer to do it right the first time and not have to worry about rushing out to get a replacement bolt or such. |
On a side note, still debating between Motiv and Berk for the front pipe. Anyone care to comment?
