Well, now, @Super Dave ...... first off your question (observation) is NOT a dumb question,

Now, that doesn't mean we can't come up with a few dumb answers .... :eyebulge:

Back-in-the-day ...... I would speculate that the identical car with the "much harder to push clutch" had some part of the clutch linkage bent.

Now, since our cars do not have much clutch linkage ........ oh, I'll let @Ultramaroon take it on in ........

While we are talking about clutches and TOB. I heard mentioned in another thread that you can buy a more robust TOB for the FRS if preferred. Which TOB would fit the FRS and be a little more "beefy"?

I suspect SFK supplies the oem tob because they look identical. Is there another one?

Would SFK have a tob that would fit but be a stronger alternative to oem? Unless it's silly to want an aftermarktet tob

Trans fluid. Ive heard alot of stories on here of a 'night & day' difference from changing fluids.

Trans fluid doesn't come in contact with the clutch, at all.

I don't think it's silly at all. Someone may chime in but I haven't seen any alternatives.

He's talking about using trans fluid instead of brake fluid. It's feasible.

Today i drove a friends 2013 BRZ. For comparison i have a 2015 FRS. His has roughly 35k miles and mine barely over 11k. To both of our surprise the clutch pedal felt completely different. His was much stiffer than mine. My "throw" in the pedal is almost effortless compared to his. Both of our clutches are stock. What exactly would cause such a massive difference in the feel of the pedal?

I'm curious enough to want to ask your friend if he's done anything to his clutch.

There is something to @jcw99's explanation. I have felt that change but it has never been radically different.

Never got the notice and just stumbled across this.

Did your friend get the car new? Like Celica said a pile of cars had the spring removed. The 13 I test drove before buying mine had the spring removed and it does indeed create a whole different feel. I would bet this is what the difference is.

I sure hope not, considering that a cursory google indicates that transmission fluid will quickly ruin the seals in a system designed for brake fluid. Not sure if the 86 has a separate reservoir or not, so even worse if it mixes with your brakes.

So either this suggestion is going to be just ineffective, or it's going to be ineffective and dangerous. I know you're trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but either way, this has nothing to do with transmission fluid.

Not 100% but I believe people refer to the ACT heavy duty TOB

Perhaps the lubrication on yours is still fresh?
