I would suggest that when shifting, wind up the last gear pretty tight (4-5,000 rpms) before shifting into the next higher gear. Also, when shifting, pull (or push) the shift lever slowly and firmly into the next gear. It's not a toggle switch ..... the lever is moving heavy transmission parts. I suggest you NOT "lazy leg" it ……. push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor. Oh, yes ..... DON'T ride the clutch; when you're done shifting put your left foot back over on the dead pedal ..... ;) The transmission will shift smoother, the warmer it is ...... that's just the way it is. humfrz |
OP,
You said you already know how to drive a stick. Cool. Thought I'd include a link to a post I did to help another new-to-manual driver become comfortable with the clutch shifting just in case it's helpful. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2662663 As @humfrz states, don't ride the clutch in normal driving. But in the semi-how-to above it's useful to learn when/where the clutch engages. Have fun! Be safe! (If you figure out how to do both together then let the rest of us know too!) |
Just did a quick pull in her for the first time, and coming from a Lexus es300 the frs feels surprisingly fast as everybody says it's a slow car blah blah blah

My only tips would be: 1) If you need power, downshift and keep the RPM's between 4500-redline. 2) Try driving the car at an HPDE/track event. The car is in its element at the track, and you will learn to be a better driver. Congrats on the new car! |
