jealous neighbors against young owners

For the young owners or those that look young as in early to mid twenties...do any of your neighbors give you the envious eyes (dirty jealous looks)?

My neighbors probably thinking i'm rolling in a porsche or an exotic...

Well, I'm not young nor do I look young ...... but, I do get some looks (and comments) from my neighbors. 10 years ago, when I bought a new Miata, they just figured I was going through a late life crises. 3 years ago, when I bought my FR-S ....... they thought I'd really lost it.

Nope not in my neighborhood, but some of the local "owners" around my town are just complete entitled douche bags that clearly had mommy or daddy bought it for them.

But that's just my neck of the woods.

raven1231 06-02-2016 04:25 AM

Yeah all the time man. All my neighbours ask if it's a McLaren. I can see why too, they're hard to tell apart.

Speed2th 06-02-2016 04:43 AM

No because Brz is a cheap sports car.

ZionsWrath 06-02-2016 04:45 AM

no, their camry's cost more than my BRZ so they probably just think im a young guy in a cheap car. More likely they don't even notice or care.

You mean they're not drooling over your rare prestigious piece of machinery?

themadscientist 06-02-2016 06:58 AM

People flip out over my BRZ, but the car is much sexier than its sticker price would suggest.

soulreapersteve 06-02-2016 08:29 AM

Neighbors are probably like "oooo shiny orange car!" but that's pretty much it. Saw a few taking pics when I first got it.

I did get hounded by a guy while out grocery shopping. Basically thought I was some spoiled kid with rich parents and kept stating "mommy and daddy must not care about money to buy you a car that expensive".

Summerwolf 06-02-2016 08:43 AM

No, not at all. It is a Subaru.

jasonojordan 06-02-2016 10:00 AM

I don't get snarky comments. Mostly just people interested in what it is and compliments on how it looks.

JazzleSAURUS 06-02-2016 11:00 AM

I get a lot of people asking how I'm such a successful young person, what I do to drive a Lotus, when this model of Corvette was released, and what it's 0-100 time is.

I just tell them I'm an astronaut.

Tcoat 06-02-2016 11:09 AM

My neighbors said "oh you better keep it locked or you won't have it long around here"
I made very sure to show them how loud it was right from the start so that they would say "Oh that's ok it won't bother us" so that now it is harder for them to complain.

jasonojordan 06-02-2016 11:12 AM

I don't have the noise issue in my area. ID say about every other house has a restored classic in the garage that when ever they take it out they like to get on it on the way out of the neighborhood.

Gunman 06-02-2016 01:47 PM

Try parking a true exotic on your driveway for a few days, instead of the usual car, lol. I'm surprised the cops didn't stop by to question me.

Nevermore 06-02-2016 02:23 PM

No one has ever said anything to me, but I'm sure our neighbors are starting to wonder why I'm still living at home and driving such a nice car. Now that I think about it, they probably think I'm spoiled, and my parents bought me the car, but who cares. Now the kids (there's like 20 kids on my street pre-teen and younger) might not like it because it's loud and I'm always going places, interrupting their cul-de-sac games. I've also told them numerous times not to play around my car because they like having war games with BB guns (plastic pellets), or the swing plastic swords/bats a lot. I've kept a close eye on it before, but as far as I can tell, it's never been tampered with.

EDIT: The guy at the top of the street on the main road has a modified WRX, the first time I drove past him he waved, so that was cool.

I think most of people in LA know how to read car sign or possibly seen advertisement. However, I do get a lot of compliments from valet parking even from high end hotels in Beverly hills or Hollywood. Once I even have a group of valet guys came out to check out the car and told me how much they love it and wish they were the one driving it. I was like you must be joking, there are so many fancy cars here. I guess because our car look good and affordable, make it a more realistic dream for those guys.

I do know my neighbor gave me a nasty look with my car because the loud start up.

I do not get dirty looks but I do have a fan club in my street ranging from 6 to 35 year olds. If the kids(from the neighbourhood) are outside when I get home I'll have 3-5 of them next to my driveway ogling it and sometimes ask me to rev the engine so they can hear that sweet Supercharged sound

She then says "oh so your mommy and daddy can buy you a nice car like this and you can't even spare a dime for me and my kids" I then replied "lady there's 25 companies just in this shopping center who would hire you" she replies " you wouldn't know what a job is!" "sure wouldn't ma'am railing your mom out wouldn't be considered a job would it?"

Design engineer. I was working for Mosler Automotive at the time, and would take an MT900 to shows and events occasionally.

jealous neighbors against young owners

People love the car for sure but given that one of my coworkers who's two years older than me just bought a new F-Type, cash, I don't have much in the way of bragging rights.

MT900,, that sir is bad to the bone and exactly what the Corvette should be.

JellyForSale 06-03-2016 10:41 AM

They look at me crazier as I'm washing it everyday in the driveway, not so much jealous that I obtained it.

Half my neighborhood is in luxury brands that don't have a model with an msrp under $30k, the other half is in common late model cars <10 years old. Nobody gives a shit.

Probably got more looks for the gf's '93 Camry Wagon parked out front than the 86. And it's California so nobody blinked an eye when two young dudes moved into a house with two cheap sports cars, one of which a Miata.

And with a 911, Z4 coupe, Cobra replica, another 86, a 4th gen Celica, and a family that autocrosses their Mini's and a Cayman in the neighborhood, most people 'get it'.

MuseChaser 06-03-2016 01:08 PM

I get more looks and compliments (yes, COMPLIMENTS) from my incredibly ugly 1982 VW Rabbit convertible (missing trim, rusted rockers, shredded top liner, cracked grille, rotted driver's seat, vomit-stained passenger seat (previous owner, honest... I knew him well and I'm not surprised)) than I do the FR-S. I live just outside a town with a pretty high average income level per capita and drive through it every day; it's almost a village ordinance that you have to drive a BMW, Audi, or Mercedes, and Jr. and Sissy drive theirs to HS every day, too. I get looks in the FR-S, but they're either out of pity or HS kids laughing at my cheap car. I laugh back, smile, and wave because I just retired and THEY'LL be looking for jobs in a few years and finally learning that they don't know anything worth knowing yet and have no idea what work, pressure , and responsibility on a grand scale are. ;)

YukiHachiRoku 06-03-2016 02:31 PM

I think I had on of the first ones in CO when I had mine. Neighbors came over to ask what the hell it was and gave compliments. (these are dudes with corvettes and harleys in their garages)

Other than that every diesel truck and Audi A4 tried to provoke races.
