How can I get an additional key for my BRZ?

Just bought a 2013 BRZ - and turns out the previous owner had only a single "key".
The dealers says $300
Any other cheaper options?
Thanks
RIck

Not really any other options. Many have tried and many have failed. I would push the dealer for one at cost unless they told you there was only one key BEFORE you agreed on a price for the car. It would be a normal expectation that there would be two even on a used one.

The car normally comes with two master keys and one valet key, and that's what should you get, unless they told you in advance. It's barely different from selling you a car with three wheels and demanding that you pay for the fourth one separately. (Well, you would probably notice the missing wheel unlike the missing key, but I think that in principle it's the same).

You only get two if you have the limited with the smart keys, but that's still more than the one OP got.

$300 is nothing these days. My friend just paid $500 equivalent in Taiwan for a new Merc key to use with his old '99 E-Class. Another friend told me Porsche wants $700 for a new key so he just superglue fixed his old one lol! Both brands the new key is cut and programmed from Germany.

If you search Kijiji / Craigslist I've seen some private ads that can cut and program Toyota keys for half price, but you would have to provide the blank. The dealer will say they can sell you a new blank for the same price as a new one that's cut and programmed.

$560 here in dealer. I say go for the $300.
