Need a good come to you dent repairer. I think this car is jinxed!
 

So I'm attempting to change my springs in the front to my Eibach ProKit.

Decided to use the "undo top nut and raise the car to release the spring tension method.", because I didn't have a spring compressor handy. (Mind you I'd actually ordered one on eBay that morning and it's due to arrive this Monday��)

Anyone who has used this method will know just how mofu tight and hard that top nut is to get off. Using your right hand to hold the Allen key while using a thru socket in the left makes it even more difficult.

Anyway was at full power using the guard against my chest for leveridge when I heard the guard wobble like Rolf Harris's wobble board!!

STOPPED immediately and checked the guard for dents and in the light I was in it looked fine.

Tried a different angle and eventually got the nut off and the job done. Knew what I was in store for when I tackled the drivers side so that went smoothly.

Decided to wash the car so I took another look at the area where I'd used my chest for leveridge a little closer and horror of all horrors, there I see a small dent just on the flat section where the guard angles down towards the wheel arch.

We have new neighbours from the sub continent that have now been exposed to every swear word in the English dictionary and some to bad to put in a dictionary!!!

It's a vey small 'door opened against it' easily fixed type dent that on any other car I'd say 'Oh well shit happens' but given the extreme lengths I've gone to making sure this car remains dent free, if I don't get it fixed it will drive me mental.

I was intending to remove the inner guard liner and try and roll it out myself but as my wife said, "That is likely to end in more tears. Get a pro to do it."

Hence my request. I can't be the only idiot who's had something like this happen to them so can someone else who's not an idiot but has been in this position please provide the details of a GOOD dent remover who comes to you in Melbourne, preferably northern side.

Ps. Waiting for spring compressor before tackling rears!!

Managed to find a reputable dent remover and had the dent removed. As usual with my car it was a little more involved than expected but the guard and car are now perfect and dent free again..

As I said mine was a more involved job in a hard to get to area of the passenger side front guard.
Just on 3 hours to do and required cutting back and reapplication of OptiCoat Plus. Also bought a OptiCoat sample pack.
All up $340. $270 for the dent removal and OptiCoat Plus reapplication.

Lucky for me I have a few mates in the paintless dent removal trade. Last dent removal on another car cost me $80 with some paint touch up also (rock throwing incident).

Smart and well aware of what was likely to happen if I actually tried doing it myself. A bigger dent!!

Around $80 was what I was expecting but that's the story with whatever you do with cars thee days. Think of a dollar value to get something done then double of triple it and that's what the final price is going to be.

Yes all good but it's a fair chunk of cash that could have been saved had I not got caught in the moment wanting to show the top nut who was boss.

Could have been worse I guess. I could have completely trashed the entire guard. I weigh 97kg and I was at full thrust on the nut when it happened! In hindsight perhaps the metal isn't as week as thought.

Anyway spring compressor arrived so no need to go to town on rear top nuts.

My RHS guard was flat on top cause i sat on it..
Lucky this was replaced when i had someone run into me..


I might have to check these guys out, I have two dints in my bonnet, one from when the car was still pretty new, annoys me so much, second one was when i was waxing the car, the wax pot fell out of my hand onto the bonnet.. :(

That's the trouble with little dents. They just sit there and annoy you every time you wash or polish your car. What generally happens is that you just put up with them because, in the old days anyway, they're too much trouble and expensive to have a panel beater fix, so you either tried to ignore them or hoped if you had a bingle it involved the area of the dent.

I can only say good things about my experience and my dent was in a prick of a place to get to. If your dents are, hopefully, on a flat part of the bonnet, and not a ridge, they would have to be easier to get to than mine. Even if they're not these guys have tools with bends that can get just about anywhere inside a panel. Mention you heard about him from Steve, with the red 86, that had the dent in the front passenger side guard. May do a bit cheaper for..

I got the details of a him of good spray painter just around the corner who does pissy jobs like painting spoilers etc, and a good suspension guy who sets up race car suspensions and alignments. Having them do my alignment when I get my MCA's.

You can only ask. If he can't do a minor scratch touch up, as I said, he recommend a panel shop around the corner. I have his details if you want them. I called in to see him and I'm dropping the spoiler in next week or when I get the alignment done.

Good thing about these two locations is that they're within easily walking distance of Westfield Airport West and a coffee.

but small dint's he said to go to a PDR guy.

Fair enough too I guess. By the time you buy paint, prepare the panel, repair, then pep before painting, then finish and clean the equipment there's probably 8-10 hours work, if the jobs done properly. Spray panting and body repair is an art. Some panel guys are great at repairing and some great painters, but being able to do both at a very high level is pretty rare.

I Youtubed dent removal and there are some pretty sophisticated tools out there to do the job. That doesn't mean anyone who has the tools and wants to can do the job.

I'm reasonably good at getting dents. I leave it to experts to remove them.

Naturally if the paint surface isn't broken, luckily mine wasn't, it's a lot easier to deal with. I've had scrapes on other cars I've owned, self inflicted, that looked minor but because the paint surface was broke and required painting they were always $600plus, and that was for a cash job.
