is there anything special about our windshield? when buying the car, the finance manager tried selling me insurance that covers the windshield, keys and dents for $600. i passed on it as i've never had any of those issues. one of the problems she ssaid about our windshields is that there's some sensor at the bottom that's attached to the windshield. i don't know what she was talking about but it sounded like BS lol so i just said no to that extended coverage offer.

A response to TRACERIT's comment:
What we have here is that there are many young, inexperienced, buyers for this vehicle and dealer finance people try, and in most times successful, to sell dogshit that is not really needed. They get the young buyer into their office with a sales agreement with some "add-ons' already written into the contract and take advantage of all the excitement the buyer has in buying his/her first new car. I find this type of situation very evident from all the posts in this forum. BEFORE you buy any of this insurance (dealers don't even call it insurance sometimes), KNOW what your basic auto insurance ALREADY includes. Call your insurance agent right from that dealers phone if you don't know or have questions. |
Rock chip here too. I need to call and get it taken care of and insist on OE glass. Thankfully in FL they cover it at no cost to the owner.

Yeah I got a chip in my windshield within the first month. Was following my buddy in his 06 WRX and he floored it driving onto the highway. I was more than 100 feet away from him and a rock smacked my windshield in the upper right side. I also got the after market guy to try and sell me the windshield replacement stuff and I kindly declined and told him I already had that through my insurance. The extended warranty for this car though had dent repair already in it too. Basically they were trying to swindle an extra 600 or so dollars out of me for stuff I already had. I still have not gotten the windshield fixed as I have been pretty busy with work. I did get a fill but it didnt take all of the way, was not charged for that either.

I will just hold mine until i get more then replace it later

If you get chips I would recommend getting them filled, I got a chip and 4 hours later it was half way across my windshield. I know of another FR-S that has a similar crack. The windshield shop told me these were still dealer only items and they would have to order one for a replacement. He did not know how long it would take to get one.

Well update since i started this thread. Had to get another windshield after hurricane Sandy because a shingle flew off my roof rough side down and scratched it all up. Its hard to see but there were a ton of tiny scratches and gouges. Thank God for Safelite and Liberty Mutual insurance! OEM windshield and $0 out of pocket cost to me.

+1 for cracked windshield.
Took a rock on the passenger edge and now I have a 2ft crack which I'm sure is going to spread fast. |
Read this thread and got a rock chip the next day!!!
KARMA!!! Anyway, let's see what Safelite quotes. |
Looks like my car! Same spot got hit and cracked! Only have had it a month when it happened! Why is shade windshield BLUE? that would look awful on my RED FR-S!

Hey guys, read this forum 2 days ago, now in Daytona with chip. Anyone know a reputable windshield repair guy in Daytona Beach? Much appreciated, thanks.
Just got mine fixed at Glass Doctor for $63 bucks. |
Four weeks ago, I got my windshield replaced after a 14" crack appeared right in the center caused by a small rock. Six days later, I got hit again by a few pebbles and caused two small chips on the driver's side at eye level but no cracks. Today, on my way to work, I heard something hit the right side of my windshield. By the time I got to work, I see a good 12" crack running across the passenger side. I was pissed. Just couldn't believe a brand new replacement windshield would get damaged this quickly. So I spent all morning calling everyone from the Toyota service dept., warranty dept., Toyota Corporate office as well as the glass shop that replace the first one. All I came out with was a case number filed with Toyota regarding this issue. They tell me to take it up with my insurance company and file a claim. And of course only to find out my deductible is higher than the cost of the repair. I'll have to pay out of pocket AGAIN. This really sucks.
