Front fender dent
 

Hello guys, wondering what you guys think about this damage and what I'm looking at as far as what can be done to fix it. I looked online and found several OEM front fender replacements for between $215-250, but who knows how shops will charge to paint it for me. I have seen paintless dent repairs that came out great, but I do have a little bit of paint rubbed off..But the dent being fixed is my main concern since only a little bit of paint is gone.

As you can see the fender is not aligned properly once it meets the top of the door as well. I tried to take good pics, but only the front facing camera on my phone works, sorry... Thank you.

Probably a 300-500 dollar job from a paintless guy + detail guy to buff out the transfer. Maybe more depending on how misshapen the fender got.

Also, you are missing a lug nut.

PDR does not work well when creases in body line are impacted but those may come out OK. Worth it if you can get it done for a couple of hundred dollars. That little chip can be done with touch up paint. You will know it is there but most other people will never spot it.

So I went to 7 shops today, Thanks to living in Chicago all were within 5 minutes of each other, ha.

3 of the shops said it needed a fender replacement..One wants $868, but they provide the fender at $240 cost. The second wants $150 to paint the new fender I provide, with no color blending. The third wants $600, with me providing the fender.

The 4 shops that would fix the current fender want $400, $490, $500, and $650. the highest priced one is a very good detail shop that I believe would do a great job, not so sure about the other 3 body shops (the shops all look very busy/cluttered/dirty.

One thing almost all of the shops mentioned was how hard WRB would be to paint, they all made it seem like it was a very exotic, expensive, and rare color that is hard to paint. And also how removing and installing the fender would be hard..I watched a DIY on youtube today and it's very straightfoward/easy, bumper doesn't need to be removed either. One of the shop's estimator tried telling me the bumper needed to be removed, along with some bolts that don't exist where he pointed at. Once I disagreed he got really offended and said I didn't know what I was talking about lol

No need to replace that at all it is a relatively straight forward repair. I would just get it fixed.
As far as matching the blue goes that is also not as bad as they may make it sound. The shop that fixed mine matched the orange first shot and if they do that they can do the WRB. Just be glad you don't have one of the whites since those do seem to be hellish to match.

Them saying its hard to remove a fender is just asking for more pay per hour. I got rear ended about two weeks ago and body shops were charging me 900$ for a new painted bumper. Basically, 200$ for the bumper, 350$ for paint, and 350$ for labor. I ended up finding someone local with a color matched bumper they didn't want and snatched it off for 220$ and installed it in 20 mins lol. Wheres my 680$ XD

I see you have a 2013, which had the "old" WRB paint. I've heard the "new" WRB (2015 and later) is harder to match because it is tri-coat. Maybe the shops don't know the difference without actually looking up the paint codes.

Then maybe the shops should look up the damn codes instead of whining about how hard it is. Any paint shop that goes by the name of the color is asking for trouble, since Subaru loves to remix the colors just a tiny bit and then call it by almost the same name.

Asheville is not that big; I would expect some flimflammery here, but when the front of my Sterling Silver Metallic (2014) BRZ got stove in by the welded steel bumper and footlong hitch of an immovable pickup truck (yeah, yeah, I ran into it to the tune of $7500), the best one of our local shops rebuilt me so immaculately, 100% Subaru, it would be a shame to say it was in a wreck. And yes, the three-coat paint matches perfectly. It's only money -- I was lucky to have good insurance.

But it can't be that hard to find a reputable and highly skilled body shop who will work with you without charging you the surrender of your firstborn. Best of luck to you. I know this feels like an injury to a family member.

I'm still looking around and thinking about what I want to do. I really don't want to pay $500+ right for this, as sad as it makes me everytime I look at it.

want to get a new final drive gear...this or that, not sure, haha
