I am in a dilemma
 

I am in a dilemma. I love my BRZ, however, I have so many things that I want to do to the car to perfect it (in my mind) to be able to drive it at the limits on the track. I am always chasing the extra second on my best lap times. after looking at my spreadsheet on how much money I spent on my car, it just hit me that perhaps I might have spent too much to perfect this car to my liking (almost 10k). did I buy the wrong car? should I have bought another car that was more expensive instead? when I was shopping for cars, I drove the WRX and then the BRZ and I was instantly sold on the BRZ. should I have test drove more cars from other makers? I was thinking about the Golf R, but at the time, I could not afford it. did I make a mistake in choosing cars? this has been on my mind for the last few months and I feel like the more I mod my car, the more I lose out on it.

for the people who have experienced this same problem, what are your thoughts on it? I have not posted this earlier because I thought that I would not have the means to sell the car at a loss and buy another one, however, I recently have had positive progress in a new career and this question started popping up in my mind.

If you had bought the wrx, you'd still have spent the money tweaking it to your liking. Or a golf, or anything else. Even if you were overall satisfied with the car, there will always be something that you want to improve.

That said, the brz is excellent at what it does, providing you respect its limits. It only has 200 hp, 200 at the wheels if you do some minor tweaks, so it's just not going to be as fast in a straight line as something with 250-350 hp, which means longer lap times. You can accept that and learn to drive it as well as possible within those limits, or you can change the limits, which gets really really expensive.

If you have the itch, nothing is ever good enough... there's always something to buy that might make it faster...

What is it you're really after? Have you already mastered the car was it is, no way you could yourself gain and improve without tweaking the car? What's wrong you feel the need to fix now?

Maybe if you had a GT3 ...

Like Gram said no matter what you got you would probably still want to change it. There is no such thing as the perfect all round car right out of the box. Even the high price supercars are not as perfect at everything as some people will make you think.
You are probably just getting bored with the BRZ and subconsciously trying to justify a change. Perfectly normal thing to happen really.
You obviously had a budget to work with when you bought the BRZ that ruled out some different cars (note I did not say better) but if that has changed now them perhaps you should take a look at some others. Just keep I mind that changing cars frequently can become a habit, be very costly and once you find the limitations of the next one you could be right back on a forum asking if you erred.

I just feel that I am in the mindset of always wanting to improve the car to suit my obsessive need of getting faster lap times. right now, I am looking at BBK's for later braking to get that marginal improvement on lap times lol. I feel that it's a never ending cycle of chasing the best lap times possible. but I also think that if I perhaps had a car other than the BRZ, it would be easier to chase these lap times without spending the money that I have currently spent on the BRZ. I am also closely monitoring the FI options for the BRZ as well which doesn't really help my wallet

If your goal is lap times, you would be best suited to sell your BRZ and buy a C5 Z06. You'll still spend money to upgrade it though.

Faster car does not make a better driver.

Just go all in, P1 or a 918. If you need to go faster, Ferrari can sell you an used F1 car.

Really though, have you actually gotten to the point where you are driving the car at 100% where you can consistently do the exact same lap time lap after lap? All you are chasing is a number. Want a faster lap time, buy a faster car. Go all in or you'll be forever wanting a faster car.

And this is why I no longer make spreadsheets. I know the feeling, I have 10k in my last project a 1995 Nissan 240. I don't regret spending the money its just a lot of money tied up in a aging car but in my opinion the smile on my face and the joy I get from my cars are always worth the money in the end. I no longer make spread sheets and it help me not think of the money and keep my mind on the joy.

Spend your money on track time rather than go-fast parts.

Yeah, but it can make the same driver faster.

I'd ask CSG Mike to take your car out and see what lap time he gets. If his lap time is better than yours, then you don't need to spend anything on your car; just driving instruction.

I've spent more than double on upgrades and I'm getting pretty close to done. Car already works great on track and I like it better than my old SC'd lotus Elise. It was a poor financial decision to spend that much on upgrades, and still is, but the longer I keep the car, given capability and low cost of consumables, the better math gets. I love to not have to own a truck/trailer and be able to carry wheels with slicks and everything else I need to the track. Thought about alternatives many times and this combo wins for me. To each their own :)
