Interdasting.

ryude 07-04-2012 08:31 AM

So the FR-S outnumbers the BRZ by about 3:1, well I guess that makes the BRZ more appealing for some people.

Dave-ROR 07-04-2012 10:34 AM

Already more sold in the us then Honda brought over ITRs in four years :) that's why I laughed when it was called limited production ;)

Enilder 07-04-2012 11:10 AM

Within a month, FRS sold for that much more than BRZ? Is FRS being produced at a higher rate than BRZ?

Stu baru 07-04-2012 02:50 PM

RWD is a huge departure for Subaru, a deal-breaker for some I was told by more than one dealer regarding the BRZ. It's a better fit for Scion/Toyota out of the gate, plus there's a price advantage. I'll be curious to see how sales hold up over time for Subaru. Hopefully they'll do well, I've been driving Subarus for decades and was all but ready to leave the fold based on current styling trends, but the BRZ brought me back.

Yes.

Toyota will be importing two to three times as many FR-Ses than Subaru will BRZs. This is reflected in the plant production too. Subaru has said they want the BRZ to be more rare, but we'll see what the production number look like in a year or two. Considering how well they are selling, I think we'll see a large jump in BRZ production. But the GT86/FR-S will always outsell the BRZ due to Toyota being a sheer juggernaut in auto sales.

Being a Subaru fan, I'm ok with this since every car that comes from the Gunma plant means more $$ in Subaru's coffers.

kyolml 07-04-2012 04:02 PM

I doubt the FR-S sales exactly 86 in May. I remember back then some non-86er took delivery of their cars in this forum and happy about it. I guess those were just not recorded until June.

WRXGuy1 07-05-2012 08:26 PM

The more Scion's that are on the road make me appreciate the BRZ that much more!

Its still the same car 99% of the way. But what ever floats your boat

bestwheelbase 07-07-2012 12:46 PM

@Spaceywilly This is a good illustration now and will become even more telling over time, as we see how Subaru bumps production when they realize a lot of people are cool with the return to a RWD product.

tripjammer 07-07-2012 12:57 PM

Yeah there will be plenty of BRZ's this time next year, maybe even by the winter.

Yes, but the front exterior is different.

True. But eluding that the BRZ is better just because its a Subaru is non-sense.

Spaceywilly 08-01-2012 06:54 PM

July numbers added

Not necessarily better, just more rare right now. More than double FRS sold than BRZ YTD :confused0068:

Lee358 08-02-2012 12:07 AM

hmm numbers are down..

DeepHunta 08-02-2012 12:28 AM

Subaru should really cap it at 6000 for the US :eyebulge:

So that everyone who pre-ordered will feel special, hehehe. And then start handing out number plates or badges for those 6000. :party0030:

No 2014 base BRZ, 2014 should be reserved for the BRZ STI. If they want a non STI then they'd have to buy used.

Just kidding! There should be more BRZ's for everyone.

Shinji2787 08-02-2012 12:48 AM

holy hell numbers dropped like crazy for july... thats interesting.. maybe july just didn't receive many shipments.. from the sounds of things on other threads around these forums august numbers should be much higher.

Kind of makes sense though, I expect we'll see September numbers through the roof since its the end of the 3rd quarter...

Guff 08-02-2012 01:17 AM

As Dave said, calling this car Limited is kinda misleading. There have been ~5400 cars sold in the first three months, and that seems like a pretty fast rate to me!

And this is just USA right?

The June and July numbers taken out to a year would be around 30k cars in the US, which is generally in line with most speculation. That's certainly above Miata, 370Z, or RX-8 sales. The combined number is probably also more than the Genesis Coupe, but Hyundai doesn't list specific sales of that car. If Subaru can supply the cars they may be on pace for early 350Z numbers or recent Challenger popularity. Of course that's a fraction of Mustang or Camaro sales in the US, but for a foreign rear wheel drive coupe I figure they have to be encouraged at this point.

Maps316 08-02-2012 03:38 AM

Seems like the numbers are low due to decreased amount of shipments for july, which sucks to be honest, if anything they need to popped them out faster cause we are getting impatient or at least I know I am. 130+ days will do that to a person lol

thermobox 08-02-2012 11:38 AM

This is still holding true to the original guesstimates of 540 BRZ's a month. They only look to be off by 40ish cars.

These are prolly the cars that are sitting at dealer lots for 34k or what ever crazy mark-up they've been tagged with.

Spaceywilly 09-04-2012 01:29 PM

added August BRZ sales. FRS sales not available yet. BRZ sales (623) nearly matched WRX/STI sales (681) this month.

Khyron686 09-04-2012 02:41 PM

Aug numbers are up for Scion:

Scion posted August sales of 7,722 units, up 111.6 percent on a volume basis over August 2011. The tC sports coupe led the way with sales of 2,378 units, up 113.5 percent, while the newly launched FR-S sports car reported sales of 1,913 units. The xD five-door urban subcompact posted sales of 1,004 units, and the xB urban utility vehicle posted August sales of 1,879 units. The all-new iQ premium micro-subcompact posted monthly sales of 548 units.

terrypm 09-04-2012 03:29 PM

Scion (calendar year) YTD sales: 49,747 units

SPLY 33,769

47% sales increase January-August 2012 vs 2011

FR-S is likely pulling young drivers into the showrooms and when they find out they cannot afford the payments on a 25K car then some opt for the tC. That would account for the increase in tC sales.

motofan 09-04-2012 04:28 PM

still 1:3 BRZ:FRS. I suspect if they shifted production for launch in other market since initial US batch.

Or parents buying them a car and their child mentioned Scion FRS so they go to the dealership. From a parent's perspective the tC and FRS probably look very similar while the tC is cheaper and easily available. Maybe even insurance is cheaper as well.

Back when I was 18 my parents took me to the dealership to get a new car for me. I had my eyes set on the Celica or MR2 Spyder. Went home with a Tacoma...

Grimlock 10-10-2012 03:37 PM

Bump for updates.

Jayde 10-10-2012 04:03 PM

Oh wow, only 2700 BRZs sold between May and September. Subscribing for monthly updates!

chanomatik 10-10-2012 07:22 PM

Add me to October's sales as of the 5th, sons! :happyanim:

Rampage 03-24-2013 03:31 PM

@Spacewilly: I find this to be one of the most interesting threads on the forum. Thanks for keeping up with the numbers.

The FR-S and BRZ have now been out for 11 months and are only 3000 sales short of the total 5 year sales of the MR2 Spyder. It is great to see that there are still that many people out there that love driving and get that it is not all about power, gadgets and cupholders!

OrbitalEllipses 03-24-2013 03:36 PM

Is there a color breakdown of the sales?
