Noise from rear brakes stopping from backwards motion
Ok so I installed my KW's beginning this week. And since then I've been having a slight noise in the rear. But not that often, and not over bumps etc. Still I re-torqued everything again. Still same noise.
So how do I reproduce it? Roll backwards slightly and then come to a sudden stop. Then i started pushing and pulling on all the suspension bits, nothing. Until I pulled the parking brake, wheels on the ground and out of gear and i started wiggling the rear wheel back and forth. It kept making the sound every time the car stopped from the reverse motion. It doesn't seem to do it if the brake isn't on (so only in gear, no parking brake) which makes no sense to me as I didn't touch the brake system. It sounds a bit like a metal spring shooting away, or a thin metal plate catching on an edge. I have no idea where to look now as I've tried to look everywhere without luck. Any ideas? |
Wow i have the same issue after installing the sti brembos, doubt the install caused it but looking forward to figuring it out

If that only happens when engaging the parking brake, it's normal. Mine has done it since brand new and 100% stock.

Ok, so that was yesterday,
Today I went for a drive of about 30km and it only got worse. So now this happens as well: I accelerate in 1st or 2nd and at the moment I shift it makes the klunk noise. Also when I take a right hander a bit faster and then release it also makes the noise. Meaning every time the left rear suspension releases I get the noise again. Going to take it appart again and recheck everything I've done. Because I have a 700km tour planned tomorrow, I need to get it fixed. |
took the shock out completely, checked everything, reassembled torqued down... same noise... it's driving me crazy.
It's only the rear left, not the right side, so weird. |
Probably just drivetrain slack

Sadly didn't have any time yet to make a video. It'll take a while before I have some time

I have a noise that sounds like what you described. First I thought it was a loose axle nut, I found a video on the forums that sounded exactly like mine. I replaced the axle nut, the sound was still there, but occurred less often. As I've driven the car, its come back, but hasn't been any worse than before i changed the axle nut. If i park the car with the e-brake on and rock it forward and back by hand it will make the noise. It sounds like a metal on metal single "tink". It only does it when accelerating from a stop. A guy on the local 86Atlanta group said to check the shields on the brakes, I'm going to try that next. If that doesn't work, off the dealer.
