Scissors sound from front right area
 

Hey guys! First post lol

Anyways, I want to know what other ppl think this issue could be. I get this sound from the front right area of my car at speeds above 65mph. It sounds like a pair of scissors constantly and rapidly being opened and closed. (If anyone plays smash bros it sounds like one of Meta Knight's moves.) It usually gets a little louder the faster I go. About a month and a half ago I got the front right corner into a light accident in which the right headlight, bumper cover, crash bar, and an air inlet tube was replaced.

The sound was never there prior to the accident. Took it back to the shop 2 weeks ago and they say they tightened things up and replaced clips to larger ones, for a tighter fixture of the bumper I suppose. I thought that fixed it but I'm hearing the scissors again.

Check to see if anything is touching the brake rotors. The dust cover behind the rotor may have gotten bent and might be touching the rotor. Or a piece of debris may be stuck between the cover and the rotor.

This^^^^ The "scissor" sound is a very accurate description of the noise made when something is just barely touching them. It also can be the noise created by a bad wheel bearing though so if nothing is touching the brakes then move up to the bearings.

Ok then, I'll check it out. Although the wheel or tire did not come in contact with anything at all when the accident happened.

So I finally found time to checking out the brakes and the bearings and nothing seems wrong in that area. But I have noticed lately that at a given speed past 65mph, the sound is alot more intense on windy days. And even more intense with headwinds.

The repair facility and the insurance company failed to detect that you've damaged a cricket.

Fortunately, 86 crickets are free.

Are you sure you're not hearing some sort of "wind whistle" .. ??

You may consider getting some 2" masking tape and tape off part of the exterior windshield cowl, the door seam where it buts up against the front fender and around the door window.

Then take it for a spin.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking! My suspicion is the fog light assembly area cuz they replaced that triangular trim piece and some stuff inside. I might try taping that thing lol was kinda doubting the idea but now that someone else is thinking it too it's worth a shot

Lol so I haven't taped it down yet but I will soon now that I'm done with final exams. But I took a road trip yesterday and was cruising at speeds roughly 80mph. At that point the wind and road noise overcomes the whistles. And I just confirmed SOMETHING whistles but don't know what yet. I just ran through a car wash before coming home and the scissor whistles started when the blowers came on to blow water off the car

sounds like a trim piece being buffeted by the wind since it happens over 65. Have a friend ride next to you and watch that corner of the car at speed on the highway, see if he can see anything flapping around. Could be the undertray or valance too- check that they are tight.

aveo/wave car are know for that so you may be having a similar issue. I'd also recommend checking the plastic trim in the wheel well where it connects to the body, (aveos are just glued there and tend to unglue after some time causing a small gap that creates a huge whistling sound, you may be having some sort of variation of this although it may or may not be stemming from the same area).

What is an aveo/wave? Is it also in the underbody?
