BRZ/FRS/Others VS 2016 Honda Accord V6 Coupe
 

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are about the new 2016 Honda Accord V6 Coupe in terms of;

1. Looks
2. Interior
3. General opinions
4. BRZ/FRS/Genesis Coupe/Mustang vs V6 Accord
5. Would you choose the Accord over your BRZ/FRS?


Me and my bud had an argument over this shit and I just wanted to know the general opinion of those on this forum. Kinda bias since we all own a BRZ/FRS, but hopefully we can be unbiased as possible.

I was a Honda guy for 25 years before I bought my FR-S, and I can tell you they make fabulous engines and manual trannys. When I first got my FR-S, what I missed the most was the throttle response I was used to with my Hondas.

After time, I've come to like the 6MT in my twin all right, but it's still clunkier than a Honda transmission. But the engine still doesn't wow me like past Hondas have. Even my L15 powered 2009 Fit felt snappier off the line.

I haven't driven the new Accord yet, but from past experience the ergonomics in a Honda is just about perfect without being flashy. Everything is exactly where you'd expect it to be and it all engages with a firm mechanical click. I'm specifically contrasting this to the mushy, imprecise A/C controls in my FR-S and the oddly placed cruise control stalk.

I should probably go test drive an Accord Coupe, but I'd better have $31K handy first because I'm not ready to trade in the FR-S yet either.

Personally, the Accord has a much better interior, everything is so perfectly placed for the driver, and the obvious Horsepower advantage. But with the price difference, 29k starting for sport-tech brz, 36k starting for v6 accord, i'd rather get a turbo/super on my brz and just mod the shit out of the BRZ/FRS.

The only thing I wish the twins had better is the interior. I can mod the power and stuff but the interior can't be modded to be high-tech like the Accord (Afaik).

What do you think about the exterior though? Personally, the BRZ/FRS>Accord in every aspect.

I agree. An Accord isn't going to turn many heads. I still get "nice car" comments all the time on my FR-S.

I used to love Honda.

But the modern Accord is a bulbous, overweight front wheel drive. It's not a performance car or a good platform for mods by any stretch of the imagination. With the exodus of the S2000 and the K20, Honda is dead to me. They make soulless, boring cars and won't get any of my money until they get their heads out of their rearends.

Wrong wheel drive. Forget it.

New si are around the corner, not to mention coming of hatch back turbo with manual.
I started with Hondas and I loved them, but it's going to take some time for me to hop back into Honda.
Nsx ? Bro it's priced at over 100k, type r ? Who knows how much that is going to be.
You guys remember Mugen si ? How over priced was that ?
I am really hoping new type r can wow me, only thing I can do is wait and see

Unoffensively pleasant and blends in, large GT-style coupe

Haven't sat in one but undoubtedly nicer than the Twins

3. General opinions
Good power from the V6, slick Honda manual transmission, nice interior, Honda reliability, would be a good choice for a daily commuter or long distance car

Really depends what you use your car for

5. Would you choose the Accord over your BRZ/FRS?
Not a chance. The Accord is a good car, but it doesn't tick many boxes for a weekend track car. I might pick a V6 Accord sedan over my GTI though.

Would you consider the Accord a sports car?

The reason I ask is because my bud and I were arguing about this. Taste in cars is subjective to each person but he and I generally have pretty similar opinions. But he pulled the "The Accord is so beautiful, I'd take it over the twins/mustang/genesis," and we just started to argue LOL.

To me, the Accord is just another regular boring Honda car but with a big power kick from the V6. But with that huge price difference between the Accord and BRZ, I'd buy a super charger, valenti revo's and even more and slap it on my BRZ to pimp it out.

My friend has a '15 V6 Coupe with 6 speed manual. While its quick, well fairly quick, off the line it has pretty bad wheel hop, top end power is so-so and it doesnt handle all that well. Its nice though, to look at and decent cruiser.

An Accord in NOT a sports car. Furthest thing from. Miata, FR-S/BRZ, Corvette? Total sports cars. To me, a sports car needs to be rear wheel drive, low, somewhat light, and agile.

I too am a long time Honda guy and the Accord is built with a different purpose than the Twins. I feel like Honda does engines and transmissions right and I do miss that sometimes. But other than that I would only consider an Accord if I had a reason to need the extra cargo/passenger capacity.

A couple things about the 2016 V6 Accord-

The weight distribution is 62/38. It's going to understeer like a pig with front spring rates higher than the rear spring rates (as opposed to the opposite with the twins). Even though the Honda has stiffer springs, they are not stiffer by much considering the extra 800 lb that the Honda carries. It'll ride much softer. The Accord also has smaller swaybars than the twins adding to the general porky nature of turning that thing into a corner.

The Accord rides with a higher COG. More weight, higher on relatively softer springs will create a very floaty and roly poly driving experience. Sports cars tend to either have a lot of power (think muscle car) or very tight cornering (think.... ugh... well, the twins!)

FWD vs RWD

According to stats I read the Accord does do 0-60 a tick faster, 1/4 mile the Accord is a little faster too. Braking- the twins do it much better. The twins pull a lot more lateral g's.

I'd love to see these 2 cars on a track head to head and see some lap times.

There's a lot more to making a sports car than the way that the car looks and the power figures. Is the Accord a sports car? I'll believe it when I see one do something other than get the groceries (even if it does that quickly). I'm not saying it is not, but on paper it doesn't look that way.

Also, there are no Accord racing series that I know about. The twins are part of the PWS, VLN and have their own racing series along with several others. The twins are in several video games. I think our culture has determined that the Accord (V6 or I4) is not a sports car. I'd have to drive one to make up my own mind though.

Yup. As far as I am concerned, FWD is good only for econo-commuter boxes and even then, only if they have manual transmissions to at least make driving a little more entertaining. Trying to "upgrade" an FWD platform with tarted up interiors and styling is a waste of time (and money)...


Having said that, I really liked my 2011 Yaris. It was a fun car to drive (for what it was) and had the best cup holders ever (which are no longer available on 2012+).
