Drving cross country from New York to Washington...things to see?

I'll be driving across the country from New York to Washington for a 10 week internship.

I know we have members from all over the world, so I'm curious if you guys would know of any thing to do in these states as i drive by them. If i can't do it next week, than on the way back is possible.

I'll be crossing Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, and lastly Washington.

It could be anything, I'd be interested to see what you guys say.

Thanks.

Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana charge tolls to drive on the interstate. Just FYI.

How long are you giving yourself ... ??

What kind of things are you interested in besides ... scenery ..??

How are you going to get around Idaho .. ??

Swing through Glacier national park in Montana.

If you are taking the most direct (quickest) northern route, there really isn't any "major" things to see (without significant side trips).

Be careful going across North Dakota ........ boredom may overtake you .....:(

I suggest you install an armrest and get a good seat cushion ....... I don't care how comfortable the seats feel now ...... that will change after a few thousand miles.

Are you going to have a co-pilot .. ??

Yep! You would only be a couple of hours away. You could visit a natural wonder of the world, a Canadian Province and a waterfall.

Drive through PA and see my car on jack stands. what a great sight.

Going through South Dakota instead of North Dakota would let you visit Badlands and Mount Rushmore. Then you could keep going west and go through Yellowstone.

Myself and the local buddies may be able to hang out and show the local backroads... or dinner and car scene (showed fellas from Aus. and Sweden around last year).

There's a 1st of 2 big regional meet coming up June 5th (Giant BBQ!). I'm sure the locals would love to meet you!

Let me know if you are interested. We don't bite! :D

That sounds like a hell of a drive. Have fun out there and be safe. Not many people get to experience America like that. Enjoy it as much as you can. Now is a great time to do it.

Hwy 12 from Missoula MT to Kennewick WA is more entertaining than the freeway.
14 or 30 along the Columbia Gorge. Over the Cascades 12, 410, 2 and 20 are all better than I90.
Dry Falls, Banks Lake in central WA. Cour d'Alene, Sand Point ID.
Hood Canal loop, Mt Rainier, Neah Bay, Hurricane Ridge, Port Townsend in western WA
