Strange window problem

My windows went wonky on me. The passenger side window works. When you open the door, the window goes down a set distance. Then when you close the door, the window closes. It works fine from the passenger side. Push the switch down and the window goes down. Let go of the switch and the window continues down. Same thing in the up direction.
However, I have no control of the passenger window from the drivers side. The drivers window goes down a set distance when you open the door but doesn't go back up when you close the door. Also the auto feature doesn't work. You push the button down and the window goes down as long as you hold button. Let go and the window stops. Same in the up direction.

Any ideas? I would rather not reset the ECU if I don't have to. I don't want to have to reprogram everything AGAIN.

Is the backlight of the window up/down button on/off/blinking? If so, it might be the fail-safe mode that the windows go into when they encounter a problem auto-raising/lowering the window.

Try doing the window reset procedure:

1) lower window all the way, keep holding switch down for 5 seconds.
2) Raise window all the way, and hold switch up for 5 seconds.

This is from the BRZ Manual which will also work on the FR-S:

■When the power window does not close normally
If the jam protection function is operating abnormally and a window cannot
be closed, close all the doors perform the following operations using the
power window switch on the relevant door.

Vehicles without a keyless access with push button start system:
After stopping the vehicle, the engine switch is turned to the “ON”
position.

Vehicles with a keyless access with push button start system: After
stopping the vehicle, the push-button ignition switch is turned to
“ON” mode.
Hold the power window switch in the one-touch closing position two
consecutive times.

Hold the power window switch in the one-touch closing position
once again and continue holding for 1 second or more after the window
closes completely.

If you push the power window switch to the opening position while the window is moving, start again from the beginning. If the window continues to
close but then re-open slightly even after performing the above procedure
correctly, we recommend that you have your SUBARU dealer.

Thanks a lot. You are THE MAN.
My FR-S doesn't have the push to start so I held the button down for 5 seconds and the light began to flash. Then drove it up for 5 seconds. The light stopped flashing and everything works perfect now.

Maybe I should consider reading the manual.
No need to. We have this forum.

I advise you give it a read since even @FRSBRZGT86FAN and I lose patience eventually.

There is some cool stuff in there you may not know.

btw, there is a TSB for windows sticking issue.
I have had what you've described many times over the winter. haven't had a chance to get it fixed, but I know the reset solution at least...

The window TSB works. I had it done right away. Never once had an issue (well except when the whole car was iced up and that would have been a problem for any car.)

Please read the entire post carefully and slowly next time there were instructions for cars without push start in there as well. If you can't be expected to read a forum post all the way how can the case be so with the manual?
