Found a few more awesome photos posted in November of a rally GT86 driver's car. You can read about his story here.

He's running a 205/45/17 for tarmac. I also like having the mud flaps sitting further outboard and lower than the rally armor versions. White also seems to be ideal for the rally look.

http://blog.usedcarsni.com/wp-conten...1/GT86_072.jpg

Can anyone tell about how much extra height this car's running over stock front and back? The front seems to be the most different from stock, while the back appears to be almost the same as stock. Is it just an optical illusion or do other people see what I'm seeing?

I looked at doing a 1'' lift all around but based on the one photo I've ever seen of this done on stock wheel/tires it looks too high--and much higher than what you see above. The guy I found on instagram used the Subtle Solutions 1'' lift, and doesn't appear to have kept in on very long:

I love this graphic on the side, I suppose this will be what I get when my rally set-up is done.

Bump.

We're considering the idea of developing a RCE Rally-x spring set.

Let us know your thoughts. :)

Also, we now carry BRAID wheels if you're looking for strong wheels in 16 inch (possibly 15 inch) sizes that clear OEM brakes.

How bout a full coilovers set? I need a reasonable priced coikover set so I can make the jump to stage rally next year.

Will the Anderson 2" lift kit, 16x7 Sparco Terra's and BFGoodrich T/A KO2 215/65R16 work with stock suspension? Or is there other modification that has to be done?

beanswv17 10-29-2018 07:32 PM

Starting to get my BRZ setup to have a more rallyish look, mods are mostly cosmetic for now but am hoping to get a set of RCE's Rally-x springs if they ever do a run, and maybe an ADF lift down the line. Right now I have a set of Hella 500ff and 500 Amber driving lights, Rally Armor Mudflaps, and 205/55R-16 Blizzaks mounted on Sparco Terras.

Here's a few pics I took today after doing some snonuts:

So yesterday I've installed Anderson Design & Fab 2-inch spacers and changed the wheels from 225/35R18 to 215/65R16. Took me like 6 hours (mostly because of my own incompetence). And I got...mixed results. First of all it definitely feels more comfortable driving (which is one of the things I was going for), there is minimal rubbing - mostly at full lock. But I also get a strange knocking sound at the front from small bumps. Like metal on metal. I'm thinking it might be the end links because the actual coilovers sitting much lower now, so the end links or sway bar is hitting something. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd appreciate any feedback on this issue. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...931744a851.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9ac863d0f8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ae99e40937.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c759bbf4fe.jpg

For the rubbing issue I'm pretty sure both @LiftedFRS and @LiftedBRZ on IG mentioned that when they went to that exact lift and tire size they had to trim parts of the underside of the bumpers to keep from rubbing. They also ended up removing the liners altogether.

As far as the metal sounds, I'm not sure. Perhaps check the top hats to make sure everything is tightened? Or check the end links of the suspension? Did you also get LCA's for camber correction in the back or any other supporting mods?

TeutonicShift89 02-17-2019 12:58 PM

Also more pics would be nice :D

Antonovich 02-17-2019 02:51 PM

No rubbing in the back that I can see. And there's only 2 spots up front where it's rubbing, that I can see: small spot on the front bottom liner, I think I can get that with a heat gun. Another is the Rally Armor mudflaps, or more specifically, the bottom inside portion of the bracket. I'll definitely do some cutting and grinding.

As far as LCA's in the back, the lift kit I bought came with extra 1-inch spacers for the whole subframe, so I'm not sure LCA's are even necessary. This is what I got: Spacers

The knocking sound, my theory is that because the struts now sit 2 inches lower, the end-links push the sway bar lower and it's making contact with the steering shafts. I've ordered shorter end-links, see if that fixes the problem.

Will take more pics when I install the end-links, do some trimming, and get a wash.

IIRC They both had rally armor flaps and both had to remove the front ones due to rubbing. So that may be the issue.

Antonovich 02-19-2019 04:35 AM

So I'm thinking instead of cutting the bumper and grinding the rear of the fender, what if I try to fold them over instead. For the bumper, since it's pretty much just plastic, would heating it with a heat gun and folding over work? For the fender, I'm thinking of taking a hammer to it and folding it inside the body work. Then simply re-drilling the holes for the fender liner. Because if I cut the bumper and grind the fender, how would I attach the fender liner. I definitely don't want to daily this car with no liners!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...edac623990.jpg

I think @JazzleSAURUS mentioned in an earlier post that he had made some customer fender liners for @LiftedBRZ.

I wonder if the Leh Keen Project Safari 911's are running customer fender liners as well?

New mounting points, sheets of PU, push pins. They are less sophisticated than the OEM ones, but do what they can. The widebody is not included.

So what are the limitations of the stock arms? Looking at a 1” or 1.5” strut spacers but don’t want to get aftermarket arms or drop the subframe.

Found these under an All Japan Rally heading I believe. Looks like 15'' gravel spec rally wheels but they are clearly doing some tarmac as well in the photos.

I still keep going back to the idea of the 15'' wheels with an all season tire for just hoonish street/forest road fun.

Any ideas about potential road tires?

I use Firestone Destination A/T's.
But I also do mostly gravel.
They've been good.

I'm inspired. I've been thinking of going full rally with my 13 FR-S. I often travel for my business and now starting to go off-road. It's hard when you are lowered with a track setup. I do manage to get around slowly.

Anyways, I hit some f'ing retread on the highway the other night at 85+ mph. I'm glad I had the two piece front lip with race upgrade from Velox. I think the reinforcement bar actually protected the front cover this time. I lost half of it with the end plate on that side, plus tore off my fender liner, and lost a bezel and side marker.

This might be my opportunity to sell my stock wheel setup, RPF-1 setup, and lowering springs, and put that into a new setup.

I'll post some photos later.

Sounds like the right time to make a change! Post your updates when they happen!

For sure...

I'm trying to figure out all the difference in suspension specs and what do I need minimally to swap. This will be done with an AT.

One day, I'll go back to a track setup. Maybe...

^^ LOL that rules..

I have an FRS I bought in 2015 and turned into a track car.. Been a track car its whole life. However, I've switch to racing motorcycles and haven't driven the car in over a year. I've been trying to sell it with no luck.. So now i'm considering setting i up for rally stuff..

I have Caddy ATS Brembo's so i don't think I can switch to a 15" wheel..

car is gutted, half cage, lots of suspension goodies etc..

BRZ does Rallying?

Was in the Charlevoix area to see the annual Rally they have during the last weekend end of October and to my surprise someone was competing in a ’13 BRZ and doing it much better than some other AWD’s He managed 4 th overall!

Here was my Photo catch for that weekend. Enjoy!

Could have been better but I did not know the area to get the best vantage, they only pass once and the safety personnel where quite mobile & took pleasure walking in front just when the cars would pass….

Arrived Friday afternoon, only had time to see them arriving back in the pit area it was quite dark out and had trouble finding where they hid the pit area (for the photog’s out there that night I was lucky I had my 50mm 1.4 at 60s iso 4000)

Thank you all the crazy rally drivers for the show!

Aaron Crescenti - Glen Gardner, NJ
