whistle noise in carbin

Mine is a 2013 BRZ.

Originally the whistle noise only happens when I push the gas pedal to a certain level, mostly on 6th gear, especially on highway. It is also there when I am on cruise control.

Now it even happens when in idle and I am getting worried. Anyone know what is going on please?

I have it recorded and posted on youtube and you may want to turn up your volumn a bit: https://youtu.be/XYdt_pEILxw

The noise is especially obvious when I gave it some gas around 0:20.

Help will be very appreciated!

No. The car is all stock.

Well then, usually a "whistle" sound in an engine, is created by the intake or exhaust.

So, I would start by checking all of the air intake tubes and hoses (and the box) to make sure everything is tight.

(the sound tube isn't messen with you is it .. ??)

The exhaust is a bit trickier to find a leak (whistle sound), you might have to get it up on a lift to have that checked out.

BTW, I can't hear any whistle sound in your video ...... however, I don't hear too good anymore.

I'm sure others will come along with some ideas.

I hope you find it ..... keep us posted.

If you at all plugged the "noise generator" hole in the passenger foot well this could be the cause

Which is the "noise generator"? Do you mean the cigarette lighter under the glove box? I did used it before but now it is no longer plugged. Does that cause noises?

Thanks for the suggestions!

The noise is kind of subtle but is driving me crazy when I keep noticing it.

If you have a head phone, turn up the volume and pay attention from 0:18 to the end of the video, you should hear it coming up.

And you mentioned the sound is no too good right? I mentioned to the dealership last time while doing oil change that I feed the car does not sound as good as before, but they told me they do inspection every time and if there is anything wrong they will tell me. But they never do.

However by the time I recorded the video it is almost time to change oil again. Is it possible why it does not sound good?

Theres a tube that runs from the intake to the cabin to pipe in engine sound, Its just under the carpet on the passenger side. I plugged mine because I found it annoying but in doing so ended up with a whistling sound under load

OK, then mine may not be that case. Thanks for the information!

@zmz0305 ..... allow me to reinforce this post.

The "sound generator" has a tube that runs through the firewall and comes out under the floorboard pad at the upper side of the floorboard/firewall of the passenger compartment.

Now, if you have plugged this ...... be sure that the plug is in all the way (it's kind of tricky cause it wants to squish away from the plug).

If you haven't plugged it, I suggest you take the spare cigar lighter's (behind the glove box) plug and stick it into the mouth of the sound tube ....... see if that stops the annoying whistling sound.

Thanks for the info! I will try to plug it and see what will happen.

BTW, did you hear the noise in the video? I am not sure if "whistle" is the correct way to describe it because it kind sounds like a very high frequency electric current noise, that kind of "ing~~~" noise like ear ringing.

To be precise, the "ing" sound starts 0:25 in the video

Sorry, I can't hear that sound......:( I'm pretty much tone deaf in that high pitched range.

I can't hear the tone that I'm told the fridge makes when the door is left open; nor the timer on the stove; nor some alarm clocks; nor most of the things mrs humfrz is yelling at me about ......

............... and my FR-S does NOT have "crickets" ..... ;)
