Brake Pad Question
Looking at Brake Pads.
Either Hawk HPS/HP+ or Project Mu HC+800 Planning on running Stop Tech Solid Vented Rotors. The hawks are quite a bit cheaper to me. Ive read several good things about he HC+800 but have also read that they don't last as long, but in comparison i don't know much about the longevity of the Hawk offerings. I daily drive quite hard, no track days yet but i am pretty damn hard on my brakes for a daily driver. Trying to upgrade my brakes before a tail of the dragon run this month. |
Hps and hp+ are very different. I would not cross shop them.

I know that. But both of them are quite a bit cheaper than the project mu so whichever fits my needs doesn't matter much towards my question. When it comes to pad life are the mus worth the money or are they going to wear out too quick to be worth it compared to one of those two or both.

I have been running HC+800 for about 55k miles. The rears are still good. The front lasted around 40-45k miles and even then I only replaced them due to uneven wear. Still could have got 5-10k more I think.
I DD, do mountain runs prob 1/3-1/2 the weekends of the year, and a couple auto-x a year. |
Save yourself some cash and skip on the slotted rotors. Upgraded pads and fluid will suffice.

And Centric Premium blanks will work just as good as the stoptech rotors for less

The hp+ are great for canyon run drivers. They get to temp quickly and the braking power is dramatically better than stock. The downside is that they shed brake dust like crazy and my car sounds like a bus stopping. Even after I bedded them in properly. If you do attend a track day they will be just fine for a beginner on a heavy braking track but intermediate or pro drivers will want something with a higher temp range. - My 2 cents

Have you considered the Winmax W2 pads? Considerably good pad for street/spirited driving with not a lot of noise.

Get Centric premium blanks... Centric Premiums are Stoptechs without the stoptech price hike. And get Ferodo 2500... better than HC+800... I had the HC and hated them

In order to be on-topic; have fun OP: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23680 Most of the usage in that thread is way overkill for your needs. Buying rotors without measuring the thickness of the existing ones is like replacing headlights once a year so they don't burnout on you unexpectedly, despite the fact that most last well over 5 years. Only the hardcore track guys are using up rotors quickly on this car, most people are sailing past 60k miles on OE rotors even with occasional track and frequent autox usage. |
I get hawk and project mu at dealer cost so those are my preferred options.
