Registering a Modified Car in Ohio

Hi,

I'm from Canada and will be getting a temporary work assignment to KY but likely living in Cincinnati. I'm wondering how strict they will be on modified cars as this will determine if it's worth me bringing my car down.

Here's the vehicle details below
Turbocharged
Full Perrin exhaust (Catted and resonated front pipe)
Coil over suspension
BBK
and a bunch of cosmetic stuff/wheels and tires that shouldn't matter.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Just leave it on the Ontario plates. You will not need to register it if temporary (depending on how long temporary is though).

Temporary being 18 months to 3 years.

Yes and yes.

http://www.dmv.org/oh-ohio/car-registration.php

Explains there what it means to be a ohio resident. Based off that it appears if you wish to bring your car down for more then 60 days at a time that you would need to get a ohio drivers license and register the vehicle.

Thanks. I already took a look at the site, I was mostly worried about any kind of inspection. The county I'll be in seems exempt from emissions testing and safety the car will pass. Just not sure if there will be much hassle.

The "inspection" in Ohio consists of checking to see that the VIN on the car matches the title. That's about it. You'll be fine.

That's very reassuring. I really want my baby with me haha.

Kind of unrelated, how bad are the winters you guys typically get? I store mine every winter and really can't take my winter car with me as well and don't really want her in too much snow.

Cincinnati is not bad at all. You'll get some snow, maybe a few times over the winter.

If you're from Canada, then winters here will probably feel like fall. This last winter was not that bad, we got a few days of 2-4" of snow. They don't get that bad honestly.

As far as your modded car goes: yeah all they do is check the VIN and color to make sure its the same car. That's all.

I apologize you were sent to Ohio. One of the worse states you could be sent to, but not as bad as Michigan

I'll be working in Kentucky but nearest city is Cincinnati. Michigan would actually be very close to home for me lol After this I'm headed to Mexico for another 2-3 years.

Sounds pretty easy then. I think I might need to bring my car. I remember hearing 93 is regularly available in the states, never paid attention before but is that true (turbo needs 93+ to run, only 1 brand carries 94 here and its not everywhere)

ZionsWrath 05-03-2016 07:57 AM

Not Ohio specific but every state I been to save CA (and never been to HA or AK) has had 93.
