Perrin Res vs Invidia N1

Yes, this is another one of those threads. Currently, I have the Gruppe-S catless UEL, Invidia over pipe, Berk HFC front pipe and Perrin 2.5" Resonated catback. While I love the sound of this setup, I am looking for something with a bit more of a deeper bass sound so I started looking at the Invidia N1 exhaust. For those that have heard both the N1 and Perrin in person, which one would you say has the better bass-y sound?

And yes, I know that the responses are based on perspective and preferences.

I've only heard the Perrin on a cold start and it was surprisingly similar in volume to the N1 (loud). The N1 was louder and a bit deeper when idling. Mine is very very deep and bassy.

UEL/overpipe/stock front/N1

Having heard both, my vote goes for the N1, BUT, the drone gets annoying with catless uel headers. But if that isn't an issue, I say the N1.

Having owned and used both for a while, the N1 is noticeably deeper and louder.

I have EL headers and am completely catless and I personally prefer the N1 (and its cheaper too!) I would say that the Perrin has a slightly better overall tone in some rev ranges, but it's fairly quiet after the cold start compared to many catbacks. It's more mature sounding for sure. The N1 on the other hand likes to get loud! It drones sometimes unlike the Perrin but is definitely manageable and gets very deep and bassy.

Let me know if you want any more specific answers.

I've had both.

Prefer the Perrin. No drone.

UEL/overpipe/stock front/N1

That's what I want is something with a deeper, more noticable tone while idling.

How bad was the drone? Did you hear it just at idle or certain RPMs? I don't really "floor it" much being in mostly city traffic so I'm not worried about the drone at higher RPMs.

Since I have a catless UEL and HFC front pipe, mine shouldn't be as loud as yours since you're running full catless. As for the Perrin, I feel that after it warms up, it doesn't do much justice, sound wise.

What RPM range did you find the drone annoying with the N1?

austin_ellas 05-01-2016 05:50 AM

Yeah that's exactly how I felt with the Perrin. It sounded like a stock higher end sports car if that makes sense. Good tone but low volume. With a cat in there it might even sound better.

3-4K drone city for the N1

Well you made go on YouTube for an hour listening to exhausts and how to install videos haha I'm sold on the Perrin res or non res 2.5". $1044 directly from their site so going to have to find a Canadian dealer in my area asap!!

Pretty much what I experienced as well, although the helmholtz resonator I installed pretty much killed that drone

RobertPaulson 05-01-2016 03:08 PM

if you want something a bit deeper try moving to the perrin 3 inch catback, deeper sound than the 2.5 but still no drone compared to the n1.

Did you go with a Nameless frontpipe or another brand?

I had not thought about that but I don't desire to go with a 3" setup personally.

The frontpipe was an ARK R-Spec test pipe, they have the resonator on it... its pretty large and requires trimming of the underpanel to clear the resonator.
