So I was just driving along and WTF!

Just to bring y'all up to speed. Last week I installed my 4th front lip on my'13 BRZ.
1st was a PU CS style that lasted a good 2years, then the wife hit one too many curbs and broke it in two. Then I went with a hard plastic spliter, lasted 3 days. (and no I won't tell what brand it was).
Ordered a GV style PU 2 part splitter/lip. did not like the way it looked in person, and the one they sent me had been returned before, it had been sanded on. off it went back.
So last week I got my STI style PU lip from IKON. decent fit and hardware. the finish is horrible.(not what's important here)

Today I'm driving down an empty highway this eve. and I start hearing plastic rubbing or dragging. Couple seconds later wham, It feels like I ran over something. look in the rear view and see a big piece of black plastic in the middle of the highway. First thought was damn new lip fell off, then I was like should I pull over and inspect? Naw, not much I could do since it wasn't making sounds now. 20 min later I get home and inspect. First drivers side skirt still there, then yup the front drivers side mud flap still there, then look up front. Nope the new lip is still perfectly intact. then I notice the side marker poking out. So I pulled it out to make sire the clips are still there, and go to pop it back in and I see what made all the racket. the entire inner fender is gone. along with the flimsy front left corner portion of the under panels.
Question is have others had this issue happen to them?:iono:
Do y'all think too much turbulence at a certain speed caused a low pressure under with a high pressure from under hood area?

nope. can't really see this happening unless there was something catching air causing it to rip out at speed. Maybe a clip somewhere was left out that caused it to open up and catch air?

I had the fender liner just rip out as you described, but on a '96 Susuki Esteem, also on a 2000 Acura Integra. Both bone stock.

My guess is the clips just got loose or the fender liner just broke/cracked at the mounting point and then just speed and air took over.

Im not sure how losing the fender liner would do that mate.

At 75mph it sounded like a shotgun going off.

There's no real mystery here. You or your wife hit something hard enough to break the liner and damage the fender. If you start taking things apart, you'll find metal body parts bent underneath also.

The above or part of the fender was not tucked in properly so at speed it caught wind and bent towards the wheel. Wheel catches it and pulls it and the clips right out. Then you drove it for good measure.

Sorry for your luck.

Nah, that fender's bent. I just had a rental Camaro that had the exact same thing happen. There was a little scratch on the corner of the front bumper that the rental company had marked with one of their little stickers, but until I pointed it out they hadn't noticed that the entire fender behind it had also bent out of shape without affecting the paint. Someone had bumped something and gotten away with body damage that wasn't easy to see.

The sheet metal on the twins is even thinner than that Camaro. You can literally bend it with your hand. If "his wife" is banging the front of the car into things hard enough to break the splitter in two, that's most likely why that fender is now out of alignment with the door.

i guess clip got loose from installing lips many times?
