Exhaust Mod/Upgrade 101?
 

Hi all,

Attempting to gain some insight and your advice on upgrading or replacing the fr-s exhaust system.

First and foremost, my primary goal is to alter the sound. I'd like things to sound a bit lower (more like a v8 or nice M5) without compromising the performance or emissions standards of the current laypout [i'm in CA]. I don't like the sound of tin can civics and this is not a Tokyo Drift car. I saw some nice chrome exhaust tips as well on a BRZ that were modestly larger but not 2.75-3", and I think they give a nice finished look to the back end lacking currently on the stock exhaust.

Any tips on a good place to start would be appreciated. I'm open to the idea of replacing the entire setup, but for the purposes of sound I can probably get away with only slight modifications.
