Lucky you got to see him. His live shows are legendary. The extremely rare musicians like him are so far ahead of his peers he almost has to been seen live to fully appreciate his skils. Now that he's passed more of his live performances will stay up on sites like Youtube. He has hundreds of songs in the tank, I hope he arranged to have his music and archives released posthumously.

Copy and paste from my comment on the LA Times article:
I saw him play at Coachella 2008.... his ability to command a crowd and jam out continuously for so long amazes me.
One of the greatest to ever play the guitar, at least Jimi Hendrix will now have a mate to jam with.

I want to add to my comment:
2008 was funny because Prince was late on stage, by my estimate around 30 minutes. He was even later than Madonna in 2006, who was late on stage at the Sahara Tent and wasn't even closing out the night.
but then... he played. He kept playing. He played his heart out, and the band kept going and going... and if my memory serves me correct, his ~1 hour past the closing time (he played till past 1AM when the show was supposed to end at midnight) ended up with Goldenvoice being fined over $100k.
Brings back great memories of the show...
