Cosmetics Accident affecting value

Hey everyone I got rear ended from a red light yesterday and have to get my rear bumper cover replaced. I realize that it is not a major accident that compromises the integrity of the vehicle but that it will still appear on record.

Do you guys have any experience with FR-S/BRZ dropping in sale value due to a cosmetics accident that appears on car history?

It may appear on the record but will have very little effect on the value if just the cover. You could go after the other guy for diminished value and maybe get a couple of hundred bucks but that is all.

I'm with tcoat you have nothing to lose by filing a diminished value claim.

I definitely have not done this and am totally speaking hypothetically here.

If you did not file a police report or have insurance involved you may be better off just having it fixed without reporting anything.

If all you need is a new bumper it will probably come out to less than $1,000. Take a look at your deductible vs a couple estimates and see if it is even worth it to get insurance involved and sometimes body shops will give you a discount if they don't have to do any insurance reporting....

If insurance/police report is already involved then like others said there is no harm in seeing if you can get diminished value

Let this be a lesson to you. Apply your eyeliner before you leave for work.

And holy shit people, why did it take more than a day for someone to make that joke?

The insurance of that guy is accepting full responsibility so I don't have to pay any deductible or anything of the sort. However, they were pretty dodgy about diminished value and when I kept bringing it up, they eventually told me to gather proof that my cars value dropped and submit it to them for "review".

All I've got so far is an appraisal from a dealer and print outs of CarFax, let's see how it ends up.

It is not uncommon for insurance companies to say "prove it" when it comes to diminished value claims. They of course are not going to pour resources into paying people more. The appraisal is what you really need and not sure how the CarFax reports help but the more stuff you throw at them the better.
