Weird trunk question.

Have a molded trunk from an FRS. Need to swap it with my HyperBlue trunk. Issue is, the 16 BRZs come with a back up camera, as well as the proximity sensor button and such.

I'm assuming that when I swap the garnish, I'll be able to retain the proximity sensor button.. But what about the back up camera hole?? I'm guessing I'll need to make one? I have legit no idea. Lol.

For references:

FRS trunk is something like this..

And the 16 trunk is this and this

Youll need to drill a hole in the garnish. If you look closely on the FRS garnish you should be able to see a small area where the camera is meant to go. Get the garnish in light and youll understand what i mean. That is where you drill the hole, then install the camera ofcourse

If you swap in the brz trunk garnish, you would already have the hole. I must be missing something here. Unless you have to use the frs trunk garnish, you would have to drill a hole on the left side. There is a slight indentation that you can use as a template. I did it for my backup camera install. Super easy.

Just did the exact same thing about two months ago. Swapped my 2016 BRZ trunk with a 2013 FRS trunk. The FRS trunk had the hole for the proximity button. Just remove the plug from the FRS trunk and switch the garnishes. The backup camera hole, on the other hand, I had to dremel out. If I can figure it out I'll post pictures of my "can't even be called amateur job". Or just send me a private message for some of my lessons learned.

Stupid question, but why do you guys swap for FRS trunks?

Usually for trunks without spoilers, or Toyota/Scion specific spoilers

And the stock spoiler uses a lot of holes that need to be filled/painted.

Ah, my curiousity has been satisfied.
What is up with the stock spoilers using so many mounting holes? I wanted to switch the '93 spoiler on my MR2 to a '94+ but found it would require filling some ridiculous number of holes (23, if I remember correctly)- nice to know things haven't changed after all these years

wingless ftw

I love no wing but I'd love to have a camera. Its a total mess backing out in tight spots

Yea but I don't have the nice head unit. I have the old unit with no screen

yefoo 04-13-2016 11:17 PM

Maybe you can save up and get a new head unit along with back up camera?

I have a '16 with a backup camera. I just wasn't sure about the mounting holes.
