Bumper Question

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys! Dumb question, but I seem to have a difficult time removing that bolt connected to the rubber/plastic, everytime I put pressure on it, it seems like the plastic thing will rip off as well. Any suggestions? Thank you. Even when I put on the Spec D headlights I only had it half way because the bolt. I am now planning on putting a splitter on so I need to take it off.

is that the bolt from under the bumper, and off to the side a bit? not sure why you would need to apply any "pressure" to it whether removing or installing. the only hard/annoying part for that bolt was it doesnt stay still because the plastic its holding is flimsy. you shouldnt have to be torquing that thing down much.

You might try placing a flat head screwdriver under the washer and prying up as you unscrew the screw ......;)

Thanks, i'll give it a try ;-) I think it's just dead tight when it was assembled because the screw won't move, it's like the whole thing along with the rubber/plastic is going to rip off haha

Well now......back in the day .......I would have suggested that you place the screwdriver on the screw and give it a good rap with a hammer.

However, today that would bust up the plastic piece.

So, @FRSBRZGT86FAN what's the secret to getting those screw/bolts lose .... ??

@Jovontea ...... here is a handy tool for your tool box to loosen up tight screws. It will either break them lose or bugger up the head so as to leave the only option being to drill it out.

The way you suggested, the same method used for stubborn computer screws, you unscrew it left while pulling down, alternatively you can attempt to reach it through the wheel fender liner because you have to undo those clips anyway to get the bumper off.

Interesting, when putting that back as well it doesn't feel like it's actually screwing in it more or less pushes in.

http://i67.tinypic.com/20k3oee.jpg @humfrz @FRSBRZGT86FAN Thanks for the tip guys, i'll def give it a try. I think at this point the screw mount or just screw in general is so tight it'll rip the plastic/rubber whatever material it is off lmao. If I unscrew it, one side is already ripped off haha. It sucks because I don't think anyone has a problem with this but me? :-(
@FR-Sky haha dang, just joined a week ago not sure how to work it, just cropped to 135 x 135 hahahah

@humfrz I can give WD-40 a try but I only have around 4k miles on it so I'm thinking it was assembled dead tight?

Well, now, @Jovontea , I just went out and looked on my car.

If it is the bolt on the underside, I suggest you use a 10 mm socket ...... and unscrew it.

lefty loosie to unscrew ...... but it is upside down so ...... loosie is ..... but wait....... are in in the down under ........ in England ....... I'm all :sigh:

@humfrz how it's looking on the other side bud rip http://i68.tinypic.com/106fw9f.jpg

8R6 04-11-2016 02:39 PM

i would use a small adjustable plier and clamp on the "clip" to hold steady, and then use a socket wrench to unscrew the bolt off.

UGH! ....... now, it looks all messed up ...... :sigh:

Stupid plastic cars ........ now, back in the day ...... oh never mind .. :offtopic:

Like @8R6 suggests ....... to remove it.

@FRSBRZGT86FAN ...... what should he do now ...... is it busted .. ?? Will it be able to hold anything again .. ??

I'd go look again ...... but my tri-focals won't focus at that distance ...... besides, I'm still dizzy from my first bending over to look at that bolt ...... :(

Now, I must go take a nap ...... ZZZZZZ

That's a bit of a problem, I think the only temporary fix is using permatex marine rtv adhesive silicone and putting it back, quite honestly not even having that bolt there won't really cause any issues.

Jovontea 04-11-2016 05:24 PM

@8R6 @humfrz @FRSBRZGT86FAN Oh no! Thanks guys, at this point I don't even need to take the bolt off anymore because it's already disconnected aka ripped so the bumper should come off after the pins come off. It's still really firm so I don't think it makes a difference if there is a bolt there or not. How do I thank you guys haha

Jovontea 04-11-2016 05:25 PM

But I mean lmao shit didn't think the situation will be that complex

FR-Sky 04-11-2016 05:41 PM

After you have about 10 posts, a "thanks" button will appear at the bottom of people's posts. If you think it was a good post, you can punch the button .... ;)
