Header crack question
1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys,
i have a question on the headers. I've talked to some specialist in my country regarding the after-market UEL headers. he mentioned that the UEL headers are having different length, hence different expansion in length. one side is pushing more than the other side during their expansion phase. after market UEL exhaust will crack on the welding joins as years goes by when the expansion and contraction happen. Did anyone encounter header crack on welding joins for after market UEL ? i've attached the picture of our stock headers, marked in yellow is some sort like flexible area for reference purposes. |
Most aftermarket headers either EL or UEL don't have expansion joints.
Occasionally you hear of aftermarket headers cracking or leaking, and in some cases its actually at the expansion joints. Generally the cracking problems are with lower grade cheaper headers both EL and UEL. I believe JDL a very good brand of header used to have expansion joints but removed them deemed not necessary. Most aftermarket headers are catless, this likely reduces their operating temps compared to catted header Cracking in quality brand headers is very rare and most do not have expansion joints. Expansion joints are more common in cheaper headers, likely because they are made from low quality materials and poor weld quality. |

:bonk: ahhahahaha unfortunately, in my country we don't really get that much choice of headers out of the shelf... here mostly custom made... in some cases owners import the good stuff at a very high price. |
