Dry does mean no oil. They do dry off quicker than usual oiled filters. I did use aFe cleaner, but I imagine Simple Green would be just as good. I have worked in aerospace industry and Simple Green is used in more things I have ever expected, per spec. It might damage, but in my mind it would never unless they came up with something crazy as filtering material and something might mess it up without proprietary cleaner. But again, this was cleaned thoroughly with their cleaner
