Yeah I thought his diversionary tactics were not very logical. He should have just came up and delivered a blinding left hook to the dudes face. But perhaps he didn't have any fighting skills (evident by the simple covering up with his forearms as the guy repeatedly deliver slashing strikes).
But it was enough of a diversion to allow the store owner to get off a shot. A well placed one at that.
