Thinking of putting back stock exhaust
I have the greddy evo 3 installed with the nameless helmoltz DP and OFH. The sound is starting to get to me ( probably getting old ) and i was wondering if i put back the stock exhaust if there would still be a nice sound to it but not to loud? also would it hinder performance in any way???? :iono:

However, how good/bad it will sound depends on the parts. Another option, you could put the stock front pipe (dp) back on and keep the catback and see how that works out for you. Performance, it shouldn't' really change anything because the catback doesn't gain much. 2-3whp + improved throttle response. 3rd option is like mine, Keeping stock header and just running a catback + catless front pipe. I know for you this would be a difficult option for you though because you have felt the gains of a header haha |

I have the Tomei UEL and OFT Stage 2 tune The rest of the exhaust is stock (except tips) and it is quiet except for the first 30 sec. on cold start. I had the TRD catback but sold it because it was too loud for me. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELSChRVBm_k"]Tomei UEL with OFT Stg 2 on BRZ - YouTube[/ame] |
I wanted a flat four burble but only when pushing with an almost normal sound when cruising. I think I have it with the following: Tomei UEL Milltek OP Berk fast cat The rest is stock. Note: it is loud when starting from cold. |
Anyone of you guys tried catless header axleback and the rest stock? Front pipe+ mid pipe remain stock

I've got a set up like this with a catted front pipe. I like it a lot. Leaving the stock midpipe helps keep the noise level down. |

I have a full Borla exhaust wirh UEL catless header, well it was pretty loud so I put sound deadening material in the trunk doors and back above rear seat, much less exhaust noise. Since I did the doors the stock stereo sounds like an after market unit with upgraded speakers. The doors and rear above seat were Sound Skins precut to fit no fuss just install $250. But the trunk was roof flashing from Home Depot 2 roles $36, perfect. Worth a try before getting ride of you exhaust !!!:w00t:

Catbacks gain almost nothing on this car, unless maybe you had a forced induction setup. When you swap them out you get more sound than it's worth than any other exhaust part on the car it seems. I would reccomend putting the stock exhaust back on if it bothers you so much. The only thing you lose is sound and gain weight |

I'll have that setup at the end of the summer there are quite a few videos (3-4) of this set up running either a nameless axleback, top speed pro1 axleback, Works ABM, or Greddy SP elite. The middle two are the least expensive but in all cases you don't get much drone if any and I'm not sure if the SP elite is available anywhere any more. |
My front pipe comes jn today if I can get a video by tomorrow I'll try.
But I just wanna say videos and exhausts don't do the justice. You only get the note of the exhaust and not the volume. Maybe I'll install a dB reader on my phone but those are inacuratate Sent from my SM-G530W using Tapatalk |
Anyone got a video of EL header and stock catback?
|
Just an update I'm getting the fp in now. I recorded what the stock one sounds like with the db reader now I will record this one once it's in.
Again I'm running a catless fp with a works axleback muffler. Everything else is stock. I'm excited to see what happens Sent from my SM-G530W using Tapatalk |
Alright so before the video goes up (just doing that now) right away what I notice is, on idle it's not any louder, on throttle theres an increase in volume slightly. But I think the most surprising thing is the fact that the tone is amazing and there just feels like your car has a little more road presence than before. 0 Rasp whatsoever.
Oh and I don't know if it's all in my head or not, but the torque dip was non existent. On my drive I did a first gear pull to redline and it pulled the whole way... I was very surprised. Could be in my head though. |
Here you go guys @Teseo

Don't be too scared. I started out with the TRD catback before I had anything else (the rest of exhaust was stock) and it was too loud for me...then I did a full sound deadening treatment...still to loud. Put my stock muffler back on and got the Tomei UEL and I think it sounds good. I could probably stand a little more volume...but not much, I'm an old fart and don't tolerate noise as much as I used too! :D |
Catback has minimal performance gain/loss on our cars. You'll see weight difference and loudness when going aftermarket for our cars.
|
I just put my stock catback on over the weekend. I was running Tomei UEL, OP, and 60R with a HKS FP for the last year... Suffice to say it was loud. I swapped the 60R with the stock catback. It doesn't sound the best, but that's mainly because you can barely hear it.

I have ofh with stock exhaust. It sounds stock to me. Can't tell the difference.
