JDL Front Pipe

Can anyone comment on how this would quiet down the exhaust?

https://jdlautodesign.net/shop/ft86-...et-front-pipe/

I have UEL headers, Overpipe, stock front pipe, and an N1 exhaust. It is ungodly loud at startup. Would this piece help at all? Any comments how much it would quiet the exhaust?

Swap the fart cannon exhaust to a quality catback and it should help. I've got a JDL UEL, JDL overpipe and JDL ultra quiet front pipe with a Perrin catback. It's not too loud on start up and sounds great

+1 for this exact set up. The catback will make the biggest difference to your current set up, I say sell the N1 and get either the perrin 2.5in resonated or q300. If you plan on keeping the N1 you should also consider the HKS dual resonated front pipe, or if you have the extra cash get the fujitsubo frontpipe (:respekt: @mav1178 for all the testing hes done) helps tone down noise considerably.

Also if you have the OFT you can disable the high rev cold start to help somewhat with the noise as well

JDL Front Pipe

Lol... I doubt adding that would make it quieter, most likely louder coming from factory pipe.

Some exhaust sound very loud inside the car, like the N1 because of the drone.

Is your issue noise inside the car or outside?

Because uncatted headers and exhaust obviously make your car loud.

I have jdl headers, nameless pipe and ark dts exhaust and inside the car it's actually quiet but the outside is crazy, especially on startups. I love the sound tho.

If you're looking to get rid of the drone change your exhaust. If you're looking to just have a quiet exhaust outside and inside the car change to something like Perrin resonated or q300

I ran the JDL UEL catless, JDL catted FP (not the ultra quiet), and the Perrin 2.5" resonated catback exhaust. It was the perfect tone. I don't think there is a better sounding exhaust combo out there that offers a rasp free, UEL rumble, that can be both civil and loud when you want it to be. All the very highest quality parts. Not to mention the header is still the best performing UEL on the market.

I think if CSG was in the business to sell the JDL UEL, you would see more hype from it. JDL is just a small shop I've visited in Phoenix when I was there. Really good guys and quality work.

I've also run this setup with the Invidia N1. It was insanely loud and had a lot of drone. Sounded very deep and good though, but it's a bit much over time.

Thanks everyone - I understand to control noise you need to address Cats (don't have one, in my header) and the catback (primarily).

I honestly have the Manzo V2 exhaust, but it is pretty close to the N1. I like how the exhaust looks and sounds at all times, except a cold start. I like the noise, but I don't think people around me do when its 10 degress outside.

I may look into swapping out the front pipe and catback.

Old setup: Tomei UEL/Over Pipe, Stock Front Pipe, Manzo V2 (N1) cat back
New setup: Tomei UEL/OverPipe, nvidia catted front pipe, nvidia q300

Great info, on killing the cold start noise, thanks again.

The ultra quiet front pipe isn't much louder than stock, but it is. You need a quieter catback or disable the cold start high revs.

I've stepped through having just the JDL UEL, to the UEL with overpipe, to UEL with OP & FP combo (Nameless), to UEL with OP and the ultra quiet FP, then added the Perrin CBE. Expensive to play around, but I've got the sound I want without it being completely obnoxious on col starts or at WOT.

I have that same setup, lol and that front pipe does NOT help or do anything lol it's still loud af lol I should have just got a resonated front pipe from them.

The only way to quiet it down, I was thinking either go for a Perrin or Q300 Invidia

I'm curious why you went from the Nameless f/o pipe to the jdl versions. Did you have the can style resonator that pings? My experience is that the JDL version is slightly louder but no pinging.

Also why Perrin vrs JDL d2? Price?

The Nameless pipe pinged horribly for me. The Helmholtz resonator was clearly not happy with my exhaust setup.

I got a killer deal on the Perrin and could get it in less than 24 hours. I'm also not a huge fan of the thin wall tips on the JDL, but I understand that they can do whatever tips you want (to some extent, obviously) though that would increase the lead time. I'm impatient :)

The Nameless pipe does an exceptional job keeping the exhaust booming out of the cabin but you do sacrifice for pinging. The newer ball version is much better than the older can style but still pings a bit.

JDL has a dual walled slash cut tip that looks awesome, but I understand a deal and not waiting.

Thanks.

To control noise you need to primarily address sizing of resonator relative to sound suppression capability of catback exhaust.

Having cats or not has very little to do with a quiet setup.

False?

I ran a Fujitsubo catted header w/ a Berk catted front pipe. That setup was absurdly loud, even with my Fujitsubo catback (super quiet).

I put the stock front pipe back on, and it sounded like stock again.
