DRL replacement LED....what am I missing?
 

Tried a search but couldn't find anything.

I have the base model fr-s(no fog lamps) and wanted to replace the yellow DRL halogen bulb, so I bought these from diode dynamics. The color is great, however they don't function like the stock DRLs.
Instead of the stock Hi-beam halogen having a more dim mode for the DRL, the new bulbs just operate in HI beam mode for the DRL(as in, when all lights are switched off and the car is in drive/reverse).

There literally is no difference between the hi-beam output and the DRL, other than the fact that the lowbeams come on for hi-beam function also. And it is blaring bright, it completely lights up road signs twice the height of the car only a few meters out. This was not my intention for the new DRLs, I can't really know if the output is too strong even for broad daylight driving, but in the low light hours of dusk and dawn, I'm just driving around beaming peoples mirrors in front of me now.

I assume the height adjustment knob on the stock headlight housing is only effective for the low beams.

Am I being to timid about the brightness? Don't get me wrong, I love them in pitch black back roads conditions..they are PLENTY bright..but I just wish it had two modes, one for DRL driving.

LED's do not project light. LED's, in a a case like this, do not have a dim and bright. YOU NO LONGER HAVE HIGH BEAMS. Deal with it, put your stock bulbs back in, or do a bixenon projector swap...

Chill brah. Like i said i couldnt find what I was looking for in the search.

I can deal with no hi-beams, the stock ones don't work well in fog with the car being so low. The problem i'm having is that the LED is just So. Damn. Bright. I just tested it tonite in my driveway. You can project a movie with these things. The light output was solid for the width of garage door and all the way to the roof.

Not familiar with bi-xenon but i'll look into it.

How is them being bright a problem?

I'm pretty sure he's just worried people will flash their highs at him during afternoon/sunset lighting when not everyone has switched their headlights on, but his DRL lights are technically in perma-high-beam mode so they think he's just an idiot blinding people with his high-beam.

I would see this as not so big of an issue during bright day-time, but during less light or cloudy days, yeah, you might come off as an ass to other cars :\.
One solution is to invest in DRLs with both functions. They used to make a lot, but I haven't seen them lately. Maybe due to price or durability.

The only solution I can think of is replacing them, as mentioned above, with DRL bulbs that do both. Again, seen them before, not so much anymore. Contact DiodeDynamics on this forum and hopefully they have a product? They're great in terms of communication and service.

Well keep in mind that both projectors and drl's aren't running at the same time. It would also have to be conpletely dark before these begin to blind anyone, and they would have to be really close. Again LED's scatter light. They don't project.

The XML2 option would be the only exception, but I think that would be a bit ridiculous to even think about getting. I sell the same bulbs they offer as the XP80, and those are impressive, but not invasive. If you went with the XLM2, just make sure you switch to low beams as the sun goes down. If you did get them, I'm in no way faulting you. It's ridiculous that they even offer it.

This is really my only issue. I think I'll just live with switching to lowbeams as the sun starts to drop..because these work great as hi beams at night.

Also to the last poster, about the light scatter this is what i'm beginning to realize..so hopefully i'm not out there sizzling retnas.
