First impressions
Side mirrors are a funny shape, but work well.
Visibility is good enough not to cause concern.
No digital speedo or shift light. Instrument background is not patterned.
Gearbox is very notchy and makes a whining noise when coasting to a stop, just like the gearbox in my race car. Very nice.
Clutch weight and feel are good. Not too light.
I have experienced suspension shudder in the front once. But I’m very aware of anything suspension related on cars. Comes from driving rally cars.
The standard 16” tyres offer good grip. I assume they are better than the 17” tyres as I had to push the car hard to induce understeer.
Seating position is strangely high. I kept trying to lower it. You sit very low to the ground (less than half the height of my shins) so it’s a strange thing. Visibility over the dash and bonnet are good.
When driving the car I can’t decide if it feels like a small or large car. It’s not focused like my brothers SC MR2 (this is the closest car it feels like that I’ve driven) yet not big and comfy.
Engine inertia is high. One of my first mods will be a lightweight flywheel and crank pulley. It’s too slow dropping revs.
There isn’t any 86 model badges on the car except on the vendors (which I’ll prob swap for the BRZ grill or similar). So when people look at the car all they can work out is it’s some form of Toyota.
Oz model has the rear fog light.
No run in period. First service is at 15,000kms!

Shouldn't this be in the vendor/sponsor forum?

86drift 07-01-2012 07:11 PM

ATM I'm not selling anything (not a vendor or sponsor) I'm just a new 86 owner and fan.
I do plan on selling 86 parts in the future, so mods can move it if they wish.

I forgot to mention I'm in Syd, Australia and there's more differences between the base spec GT and the up-spec GTS than I was expecting.

There is a shift light, you just have to set it yourself. There are a bunch of threads for this but I'm too lazy to look for it myself.

He also mentioned no digital speedo, so maybe the ones in Australia don't have that in certain trims?

Ah I didn't even think of that...It's been a long day. xD

This is true. The lower-spec Aussie version doesn't get digital speedo or shift light. Here's a pic:

Oh, and when you turn the key on the needles don't move like they do on the higher spec version.

On the upside, you got the foglights :bellyroll:

Congratulations OP!

crimespree 07-01-2012 07:43 PM

But at least the lower spec one looks better. More BMW like!

Is that a good thing? :mad0260:

I think the first two things the car needs is a decent exhaust and a lightened flywheel...I already have these planned.

Haha they do work the best Josh!
White toyota dashboards are the worst.
you're right, the 86 does sound like a sewing machine doesn't it?
but i actually though it sounded OK in the cabin when revving out....

It sounds like a tractor at idle (I actually thought there was something wrong with it at the dealership) and a Corolla at revs. Not a great combination.
The sound pipe does make a difference. The added induction noise is a nice addition, especially when zipping around in traffic.

Congrats, I ordered the same color (Melbourne) as a GTS however, I actually cannot wait for it to get to Australia!
