Japanese Mag Thinks Nissan's Facelifted 2017 R35 GT-R Will Look Like This

A set of renderings coming from Japan try to get us ready for the last version of the beloved Nissan R35 GT-R.

We are probably hours away before Nissan pulls the wraps off the 2017 GT-R and all we got so far is speculations and very few details coming from the company’s officials.

The renderings imagine a subtle facelift, with new bumpers all around and a new front grille that follow the lines of the familiar shape, keeping faithful to the original concept and updating it just enough to make it look more modern.

What really grasped our attention, though, was the interior, where the render artist went berserk and imagined a must more thorough update. It looks like a huge digital screen now runs from the instrument binnacle to the center of the dash, with the center console now featuring more upmarket switchgear and finish.

Although we don’t believe Nissan will take such drastic measures, we get why the artist focused on the cabin so much. Customers criticized Nissan for the interior quality and style, which is not on par with the most of its rivals. Then we had a report saying that the GT-R's program manager, Hiroshi Tamura, wants to send off the R35 GT-R by making it feel more premium.

“I want to make the GT-R more premiere… not just fancy, but real premium, Quality. Handling quality, ride and comfort quality, NVH quality, some high quality in the body construction… we still have big opportunities here,” he said.

The new 2017 Nissan GT-R is expected to be revealed at the New York Auto Show.

Updated 2017 Nissan GT-R Brings New Styling Details And More Power [w/Video]

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcwGmI3mUTs[/ame]

Quote:

Nissan's new 2017 GT-R brings 565 HP, a new premium cabin, better connectivity and other performance enhancements to this year's New York International Auto Show.

According to Nissan, the refreshed GT-R's enhancements can be split into five key areas: exterior design, interior refinement, driving performance, ride comfort and advanced technology. First, the car features a fresh look both inside and out, though exterior mods can be a little subtle to spot if you're not paying close attention.

The front end is rocking the new V-motion grille, which has a matte chrome finish, an updated mesh pattern and has been slightly enlarged to provide better cooling. The hood is also new (and reinforced), with pronounced character lines flowing from the grille to the base of the windshield.

"This new GT-R is the most advanced, most refined and most progressive sports car that Nissan has ever built. And that is saying a lot," stated Nissan executive VP of marketing & sales Daniele Schillaci. "As the standard bearer for great Japanese engineering and design, the GT-R has always remained true to its Japanese character. It symbolizes Nissan's ability to set the agenda. From the onset, GT-R has pushed the envelope by combining the class and refinement of Grand Touring vehicles with the power and precision of a racing car. This new 2017 GT-R refines the legend in a most powerful way."

It's okay, i mean they didn't ruin it, just refreshed it. I still prefer the 2008-2010 model the best. Just loved that front end :)

the interior looks too luxurious for a gtr i think.

maybe it's that colour though

would still take one!

vh_supra26 03-23-2016 11:43 AM

I have never been a fan of the R35's interior. Looks dated IMO.

FR-S.13 03-23-2016 01:25 PM

Love the new front end. Can't unsee Jabba the Hut in the seats.

DuMa 03-23-2016 02:52 PM

the steering wheel is orange. comical

WingZer0 03-23-2016 04:46 PM

that interior looks horrible, is Nissan trying to pass this car off as a luxury car?

GhostRai 03-23-2016 05:47 PM

That interior is so brown... I do hope it comes in black, I understand they wanted to make it more luxurious and refined but just wrapping everything in leather everything is not the answer.

daiheadjai 03-23-2016 07:08 PM

The Toyota/Lexus spindle grill/predator-maw looks better and better the more I see the competition...

I like that they mounted the paddles to the wheel, rather than the column.

That was always funky to me during daily commuting going through an intersection. Or tracking out onto a straight at the track, and you just barely reach the top/bottom of the paddle.

I was thinking how boring is this going to be but I too found it enjoyable and relaxing. I like the way there were these special tools for doing one job only. Oh look, there's a gizmo for punching the pistons into the bore.

Two things made me wonder though. The plaque says hand built by that guy but I saw 3? 4? different guys doing the assembly. Also, after the dyno run that person appeared to be listening to the engine cool down but he was wearing ear plugs.

Yeah it really was relaxing haha.

I also noticed like 4 different guys working on it. Maybe it's "hand built" under their supervisor/ manager? During the dyno run, it was cool to see the turbo get red hot. As for the guy listening to the engine, I believe he was wearing an ear plug on the opposite side to block out other noises? I read they were listening for knock or whatever.

Got some additional info and pics on the car.

It talks about how now there will be an additional trim level- Pure - added to the lineup. So, there will be the GTR Pure, GTR Premium, and GTR Track. Then a GTR Nismo to follow later on.

Personally, I really like it. The interior looks so much better to me when it's in a normal color. Also, the exterior looks really good in different colors too. I feel like the Gray really suits the car well. Looks more modern and elegant.

Some pretty nice pictures in here. I'm curious to see what journalists will think once they get their hands on them.

humdizzle 04-06-2016 05:12 AM

As a former GTR owner most of the community is mixed about it. The new front bumper is getting alot of love, but the rest of the car is a bit too little too late.

The car is getting ancient now. Its over 10 years old and pretty much the same. Sure they revised the suspension and turned up the boost a bit for marketing numbers (look more HP this year!) and updated the interior but its been the same car. A 2009 and 2015 GTR run pretty much the same after doing the basic bolt ons. In fact the newer 2015/2016 GTRs are slower than the 2012-2014 cars because so many complained about the harsh ride that they made the suspension more comfy and soft.

If you want a GTR now the 2012's are a great buy. You can get a nice one for low 60s. otherwise I would wait for the 2020 R36.

Im guessing they are going to ask 100k+ for the 2017 which is too much imo.

I'm curious if the Nismo/top trim is getting changed since the base seems to be using the rear aero from the old version. Like most I feel it is a bit too little of a difference. However the next/future GT-R concept of the completely new one in development seems so left field that I still love the current gen more.

The blue definitely does it for me. Looks so proper. I really like the changes they made to the interior. Feels a lot more upscale, like you really get your money's worth.

We'll see what ends up happening, but I am really liking this new update. It's definitely on my list of cars to choose from when I decide to part ways with my STI.

I'm actually hoping that Subaru does something good with the STI in the near future. A turbo hybrid with a DCT would be killer, as it would be realistic to own for a long period of time, especially when gas starts getting really expensive.

1,380HP Nissan GT-R Sets New Guinness World Record For Fastest Drift At 190mph - 305k

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6HAHi7c-fU"]GT-R - World Record (Coming Soon!!) - YouTube[/ame]

Quote:

Following a short teaser video released earlier in the week, Nissan has revealed its new world record set by the GT-R.

Using a specially-tuned version of the sports car and with Masato Kawabata behind the wheel, the Japanese drift champion and title holder for the Japanese drifting series, Godzilla has nabbed Guinness World Records' title for the fastest ever drift, with a speed of 304.96 km/h (189.49 mph) and 30 degrees angle.

In order to set the record, the Nissan GT-R's output was raised to 1,380 HP and sent to the rear wheels. The car, which was modified by GReddy Trust, was tested extensively at Japan's Fuji Speedway, prior to the record set at Fujairah International Airport, in the United Arab Emirates, which was chosen for its 3 km (1.86 miles) long airstrip, deemed to be long enough for the challenge.

GReddy Trust's technicians have worked on the specially tuned sports car's setup on the site, in the three days leading up to the event and, in order to comply with the guidelines set by Guinness World Records, the team had only three attempts to complete the feat. Besides the extra oomph and the car becoming RWD, it also received a Recaro driver's seat, lightweight alloy wheels and Toyo tires, exclusively designed for this stunt.

The previous drift record was set by Jakub Przygonski, from Poland, in a specially modded Toyota GT 86. He managed an entry speed of 256 km/h (159 mph) and 217 km/h (134.8 mph) drift in the 1,068 HP car, at an airport near Warsaw, Poland, in 2013.
