yeah seriously why is there this sudden expectation that this car needs to be a new supra when toyota has repeatedly stated that this is not? if you want a new supra keep waiting and hoping, this is not it.

It's fucking bullshit like this that will give some idiot in the annals of market research the wrong idea, convince Toyota to fuck up the car, then have it NOT sell in the expected numbers (because it's not what most of us are asking for), and shit tank Toyota sports car production into the ground yet again.

Have at it chaps, if this car does well, a Turbo version which WILL compete with the Z would most definitely come along and then a Supra type car is inevitable. Why would they want to fuck that up I just can't grasp.

Because in their eyes, they only see instant gratification without the consequences. If this car turns out to be what it's supposed to (RWD, lightweight, affordable), then sales will most probably be good. That's a win-win because like Matador says, interest would peak and Toyota would likely pursue higher performance models stemming from this car. If all the bitching convinces Toyota to change the original plans for this car, we end up with a slightly more powerful, definitely more expensive version that not as many people will buy. Future plans for sports cars from Toyota are then canned. Can you say lose-lose? So I guess all I'm saying is, "Please be patient."

For the umpteenth time:

If the car creeps from the mid to the upper 20's (which it presumably will based on reports from several months ago), it will compete with other sports/sporty cars that can be had for that price.

That is reality. It WILL compete and be compared to 370Z, all the ugly pony cars, and even the ghosts of cars no longer with us (e.g., Celica).

It's going to have a WRX motor, and there is undoubtedly a turbo in the Subaru parts bin that will fit on to it -- if they offer that as an option, everyone will have a chance to purchase the car they want.

With ~500 less lbs, it will be capable of doing more with less; 250 - 275 bhp would get it hanging on the 370's tail, and the aftermarket can take it from there.

We already know it will turn; I would like to also own one that can merge into traffic and overtake a few cars too. I want the fast version, thanks.

Um... what? It's a Forester motor as of right now. Last time I checked the WRX motors already came with turbos.

馬の耳に念仏。
It's waste arguing w him. For some, they want this car to be stock 3xxhp turbo competing w 370z & other over 300hp sports car. Let them dream whatever they want, cuz they're entitle to THINK/DREAM. If they keep dreaming that, either way they won't be buying this "don't have 300hp" car. Cuz they don't understand this car & I'm totally fine w that (simply don't get hp is easy to make). Let him keep his 370z and say whatever.

@Jordo
Say what you want/dream this car to be, but please don't deceive newbie that this car gonna be 300hp competing w 370z & cheaper price tag bs. State as your opinion and not a fact (instead of "it WILL", change it to "it MIGHT"). Example: 370z vs FT86.

Since Toyota is so adamant about listening to customer feedback, then surely they will be smart and listen to the "feeback" we give when we say we don't want it to be a Scion.

LOL! ^ +1. The more I look at the big picture, the more I'm convinced that it won't be badged as a Scion. If this car is sub $25K and about 200hp, then it is just TOO close to the specs of the 2011 tC. Yes, there's the difference between FWD/RWD (big difference) and weight/size (not as big a difference), but they would be too similar to sell under the same badge. At least that's what I think.

It doesnt make sense to make it a Toyota and have it compete with a tc either then does it??

Unless the ft gets released as a 2012 tC

GOD FORBID.

I love how two companies do badge-engineering. LOL

ryun84 03-10-2011 04:18 AM

I think there is enough difference between the brands to avoid any negative sales effects, no? Even if they are parent-child companies. I mean, sure, young kids would look at the FT and think it's a cool car, but they may just fall for the whole "Toyota is for old people and Scion is cooler" imaging (which is not the reason I have a tC, by the way...). Basically, leaving the kids to the Scions and mature drivers (enthusiasts included) to the Toyotas. This would also help keep insurance costs down if fewer young drivers (under 25) were driving the FT. I also think if Scion were to lower the price of the tC slightly, it would be that much easier. I say Scion lower the price because the alternative would be for Toyota to raise the price of the FT, which is a no no.

Is there any thread on here that doesn't end up going on about it possible being a scion? :mad0259:

Can a mod just create a sticky for Scion related discussion. Seriously people, move along or look out for the ban stick :bellyroll:

“We had feedback from drivers who felt that the angle of the A-pillars created a type of ‘tunnel vision’,” he said. “This could sometimes make the car hard to place on the road, particularly at higher speeds. The theory behind this car remains that of the ‘86’ [the original Corolla AE-86], which was easy and pure to drive, so we had to change it.”
Nice to see they're STILL using (and sticking with it) the AE86 as their entire basis of how this car should act/react on a track (poet and didn't know it).

Couldn't be a better plan imo. Take the AE86, and improve where it needed to be improved, and leave the rest the hell alone.
