Boosting 1st gens

It seems all im reading lately is that first gens ECU or the cams/valve issue comes up once you boost first gens. Ive had my car for almost 4 years now , early adopter first batch of production, about 34000km, On oft stage 2 and ive been wanting to go with a Supercharger but these stories have been keeping me away... Is it just a select few who have this issue ? Is it not as bad as it seems on the internet?

Besides the batch that had actual codes thrown and such, supposedly no others have the issue, but I wonder. I have issues that no one else has going SC and mine is a late first model year... however I did find one person in the official issue list which had a production date later than mine even.

With my edelbrock kit I'm not running correctly, we had to use stock cam timing to make it work, and still it's not really completely smooth.

I really wish I knew the answer to this one.

Ya first gen has a valve issues on the forums. Also see more people eating valve rockers with 13 and early 14s. Of course no one new about this until a huge pattern started. Maybe people with the 13 and early 14 have tuning issues or something. I wouldnt take a chance with it all and build your engine if going FI.

Mine is doing fine.

I got my BRZ in July 2012, and put on an edelbrock supercharger at around 25k miles. No major issues so far, knock on wood but I do have some low-mid rpm hesitations that most of the other people don't seem to talk about. The car never threw any codes before or after the supercharger install.

I'm having the same thing with Jackson... a few low to mid-range hiccups.

This is not reassuring at all lol. What do you all mean by low to mid hesitations??? I forgot to mention i still get that snmall rpm dip to on idle even after the oft but never threw a code either. For now it seems first gen really are cursed.:/

Got my car in June 2012, boosted at 552 whp (with 4 maps for different boost levels) for 2+ years, still running strong.

Boost, but also added all the supporting mods to it like suspension, brakes, cooling, catch can, clutch, motor mounts, fueling, wheels/tires, flex fuel kit and solid tune.

I've also considered boosting and I have a "1st gen" it's a 2013 with 36k miles right now and has had the ECU replaced under warranty due to a CEL for a Cam gear.

Boosted 1st Gen. 36xxx, ~10K Boosted Miles. Just starting to get the Cam Gear CEL. Only happens on long trips, though it threw an ABS code that didn't give a CEl this last trip. Starting the diagnosis process as soon as I get time.

I have hesitation issues too, that's the majority of my remaining issues since we went back to stock cam timing. It stalls sometimes when starting out or dips heavily at very low RPM/low throttle when shifting. I also get "bumps" in the power band when doing a WOT run.

I still consider the car quite drivable, but it's not ideal.

I'm thinking of getting Shiv to custom tune my car with OFT since I'm local - I just want to double check my work and make sure theres nothing mechanical that could be wrong.

I,ll just say this: BOOOOOOSSSSTTTT DO IT!!!!

Seriously though buddy @frsqc I have a KW c38 boosted BRZ (early 2013), it's been boosted for 20k+ km and is still going strong (aside from my throwout bearing but that's another thing).

Anyways I'm from Gatineau and you are more than welcome to make the drive down here if you'd like to see one in person and go for a ride shotgun in it see how it feels (and how nothing wrong is happening).

It's still not completely finished (few things like gauges, oil cooler, and other small things) need to be added and my tune does need a small revision but hell it made the trip from Mississauga to Gatineau no problem and hasn't given me any trouble yet(aside from a spinout and curb jumping session but that's more me than the car lol).
