Coilover install help
Hey all, I'm pretty new to the forum and I got a pretty good deal on a set of coilovers and I'm new to the hands on aspect of modding, so I was wondering if someone could help me install them sometime next week or so. A lot of members seem really knowledgeable and I'd like to know more of the hands on aspect which is why I'm asking for help haha. I live in Vacaville, and it's a 2016 BRZ if that helps at all. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the new car! Looks like the mod bug bit you. I'm a bit too far but I'm sure you'll find someone along the way :)

Lucky yours is a 16. It took way more effort then it should have to remove the swaybar links on my car lol!
Just a general tip, be sure you set up your preload correctly or you will get noises. I would look at investing in some LCA's if you are going to lower it more then 1 inch. Have fun and do it properly. No short cuts lol!! |
FYI - do A TON of research before you buy any coil-overs. The general consensus is a coil-kit under $1k is pretty much junk. Coils are "in" for street cars. But even an good-quality kit may be complete overkill on the street. For instance... let's say you spend $2k for a solid coil kit from Bilstein. You spend another $400 to have a shop set-up the height, rebound rate, alignment, etc. for you.
If you never race or do track time... you just dropped $2400 for a set-up that with maybe with a little research, you can accomplish your goals for about $500 with a set of springs and an alignment. Coils were originally designed and used for race cars because racers needs to tune their suspensions on the fly for various track types, conditions, etc. You DO NOT want to just "install" a coil kit without some baseline adjustments and alignment. Otherwise you might find yourself with worse handling than stock that borders on deadly. |
I would have lent a hand if you were closer to me. It's pretty straight forward on installing coilovers. Which ones did you get?
