Rattling Gear Shifter Above 5k RPM
Hi guys,
Was driving through some nice twisties today when I noticed a problem: My gear shifter makes this rattling sound roughly at and above 5000 RPM. Anything under that and it's completely silent. The rattling sound comes whenever above 5000 RPM regardless of how much im on the throttle. It sounds almost like a geiger counter going off and it sounds like it comes from under the leather shift boot. Any ideas as to what this is? It's very noticeable. Many thanks Edit: I drive a MT car with roughly 20,000 km's and it happens in every gear above 5000 ish RPMs Edit 2: I've discovered that if I grab the shifter very firmly and pull it into its gear whilst driving (in the direction away from neutral) the sound almost disappears. E.g. If i'm in 3rd at 5500 RPM and it starts rattling I can firmly push the gear lever forward (away from neutral) and it'll pretty much stop the sound |
MT..??
In which gear(s) .......... ?? humfrz |
Yeah I have the same issue in damn near every gear in my MT. It's only really noticeable in 3rd or higher though because you stay in the 5k-redline range longer. I think I've read that it's the locking pin for the reverse lockout and that changing the reverse lockout gets rid of it. But I've yet to bring myself to spend $75+ to get rid of it.

I recall several threads with the same issue that you may wish to review to get some insight into a solution. humfrz |
