How loud should the DI injectors be?

I just picked up a certified 2013 BRZ limited today and after I got it home I was sitting in the driveway setting up the radio and other things.. Once I turned off the audio I noticed the ticking from the driver's side footwell was pretty loud. I was expecting the direct injectors to be loud (I used to drive a VW TDI) but this seems a bit more than I was expecting.

Is it simply louder because the BRZ has less sound insulation than less sporty cars? I noticed an occasional "bump" in the idle as well but the RPMS stay fairly consistent.

ok, Just making sure :) If I ever get an OFT maybe I'll adjust the direct injection ratio table to avoid using direct injection at idle. That's the only time you really hear it.

Yeah, but that's where it really shines from an emissions standpoint. The DI kicks in at idle to run a sub-stoichiometric mixture. It's quite an amazing feature.

Yeah, at the expense of sounding like a 30 year old air cooled Porsche at idle 😀

It's like the old Ducati dry clutch. You pay extra for the rattle-bang.
