Pollen

I have just given up on washing my car every weekend, just so pollen can land its way onto the car again.

Anybody else letting pollen get in the way. I truly hate the way my car looks with pollen since I have a Dark Grey one and I just wish I had garage.

Anybody else have this problem? Let me know how you cope with it.

I have a black brz and I know how you feel. Detailer spray is your friend. It probably takes me 10-15 minute to get rid of light dust accumulation. Black edge detailer is the one I recommend.

Mr.ac 03-11-2016 10:25 PM

A dam good wax is what you need.

In between washes I use a water less wash/wax spray with a micro fiber cloth.

Then other times I just don't give a dam and let get dirty. I just clean the windshield and drive.

Pat 03-11-2016 10:51 PM

Have a good coat of wax on it. It should just rinse right off with the hose or rain.

MrDinkleman 03-11-2016 11:04 PM

I extend my wash and wax a few days with a California Duster brush. Actually, the one I have now is just a knock-off of the original California Duster. But you have to do this every day before the car gets wet with evening/night dew. Water makes dust and pollen stick to the paint so that the Duster does not pick it up. Then you have wait until your next wash.

I'd feel really uncomfortable detailing it without washing it prior to

I put 3 layers of wax last time. It does rinse right off.

I guess I can't complain in that aspect because it does just rinse right off, whenever it decides to rain

I use TURTLE Wax Ice liquid wax T-468R and find that for the first 5 months or so, when wet spots are dry the dirt "sits up" on the paint and can be lightly dusted off. It is as though the dirt is repelled from the paint. Do not RUB at all as there is grit in the dirt.
Once the paint is dirty with oily water from the road, dusting is not enough and you have to wash but it comes off much more easily with that particular Turtle stuff.

I know the feeling about pollen. Especially since my car is black. As long as I have a good wax job, I don't mind it sitting for a few weeks at a time before I wash it off. Though I recently got AMMO SkinDefense so I want to put that on soon. Pollen is getting pretty bad here in Texas.

That pollen would be from those yellow roses

I use this to get rid of it, and it's real effective. Takes about 3-5 min to clear all the spots:

i hate pollen!!!
i just used duster to remove it but if car is little wet then it gets dirtier!
i just gave up lol

I am also in GA and feel your pain. I also have to leave the car parked under pine trees so I get crazy pollen and sap. Need to build the extra garage as the other two cars aren't getting parked outside.

Si_Chris 05-13-2016 02:14 PM

Given that it hasn't rained, and it's just pollen build up.

I just use the following:

Takes me no more than 15 minutes if you work fast. End result is a "just detailed" or "just waxed" look. Meguiars D156 is one awesome quick detailer/spray wax. And I've used many brands (Chemical Guys, Griots, Mothers etc.).

Packofcrows 05-13-2016 03:45 PM

I use detailer to remove light dust or wash.

angadam 05-13-2016 09:11 PM

I park under Oak trees so yellow pollen plus the bird droppings make this time of year bad. Luckily for me its spring in Ohio so it rains all the time so I don't bother with washing all the time just once a week or so.

Yups I do the same. I use Optimum Instant Detailer which I leave a bottle of it in my car trunk. Bird crap galore sometimes so it's handy to have it in trunk.

Shady195 05-15-2016 01:17 PM

If you enjoy your paint looking its absolute best, DO NOT use a California brush. if swirl marks and shit don't bother you than carry on and ignore the rest.

Use a decent wax, use a decent quick wax in between full waxes. If you want an "easier" way to clean it off without ruining your paint and doing a full wash, use something like optimum no-rinse with some microfiber towels to wipe the car down carefully.

Fold the towel into fours, make 1 pass sweeping upward with each fold.

If you are us ing the brush properly and just Kuching the surface to allow it o draw the dust up you will not have swirl marks and sure as hell ruining the paint. Dragging dust around with a detail spry and microfibre towel will give you swirls for sure though.
A simple coat of wax makes all the difference though.

I hose it off best I can, let it air dry, then use Meguiars quick spray and wipe.

I agree. I have found that pollen in these parts (mainly from fur trees) is best dealt with by washing it off with water.

Anything else just seems to smear it around ..... :iono:

Yea, in Georgia for one month, everybody has a greenish yellow flake coat on top of their "OEM" basecoat.

I have an electric leaf blower that I use to dust the cars with that sit outside at our house. As long as it hasn't gotten wet that will get 90% of it off if the cars have a decent coat of wax on them.

Coming from fur trees it would be dandruff perhaps from drop bears in the trees.

Be very careful with car covers. Dirt gets dragged on the paint by them = scratches

I've heard the pollen grains from Karri trees are the size of golf balls.

Have you tried washing the pollen off with Swan Lager. The bubbles lift and float off the pollen. Rinse off with water.
