Polishing the car before opti-coat?

I just pickup my Halo FR-S couple weeks ago and I want to opti-coat it. The shop recommends polishing before opti-coating because it will "lock in" the glossy finish. I say the current paint is almost perfect, have asked the dealer not to touch the paint.

I was wondering it is worth the extra $$ to have the car polish before opti-coating?

Yes, polish it. Even brand new cars can benefit from a proper polish. You will be able to see the difference if done correctly and the benefits of opti-coat will be greater.

This. Your advantage will be requiring less time than your average color correction.

Polish the car yourself before a shop applies Opticoat Pro? Ummm...I'm hoping you're going to a authorized installer of Opticoat because the installer does the prepping of the car before the Opticoat Pro is applied. Go to the Optimum website and look for a authorized installer in your area. Dude I'd think twice about going to a shop who tells you to polish the car before they apply Opticoat Pro. If anything you could make swirls on your new car paint which then would need paint correction.

I have Opticoat Pro on my car which was applied 3 weeks after I bought it. The shop that I went to prepped my car for the Opticoat Pro. I didn't need to polish it before hand. The installer washed, clayed it, polished it and did paint correction which I had a small swirl. Then he applied Opticoat Pro and Opti seal. $400.00 for my entire car including rims, headlights, tail lights & everything else that's attached to the exterior of car. Just my 2 cents! ;)

I asked Subaru if they offer Opticoat and they looked at me like I had cheese hanging from my face. I am interested in getting this eventually.

Some guy in a 14' Corvette let me know about it. He said it cost him $200 for his whole corvette and the dealer offers it. That was after 6 hours that I spent washing/detailing/ waxing my car of course.

Don't go to a dealership for Opticoat.
Find a detail shop that's a authorized installer. ;)

I had the paint corrected before the opticoat was applied. Don't want to "lock in" all the imperfections. I don't regret the decision, car looks amazing with a low effort wash!
