228 xi vs m2

BMW 228 xdrive vs M2. If you had a choice between the two, which would you get and why?

Thank you

EAGLE5 03-02-2016 07:40 AM

I'd get the drop-top Datstun 210.

Totally different cars and I would never consider between the two as a choice.. it would be the M2 or a used GT3.

Judging by your old threads, you are still looking for a car.... YEARS later...
I think you don't need help figuring out the differences between a 33k car and a 53k car.

You've had plenty of help buying a car. Just buy one already. There are compromises with everything in life. Be happy. Enjoy it now. Or wait a few years and enjoy them then.

They aren't even in the same league lol.

The 228i is as entry level as BMW gets really. You're talking a 240hp I4 turbo compared to a 365hp I6 turbo. Also, M cars are 40%+ different from normal BMWs. Meaning, even though the M2 is still a 2 series, it's uses a lot of components that aren't found on the traditional 2 series.

The 228i isn't necessarily a bad car, but I would buy touch it if I'm looking for a performance oriented vehicle. Maybe just a small, somewhat playful car to just enjoy driving from A to B everyday, but that's it. If I was going to get any 2 series, it'd be a M235i. Even still though, I probably wouldn't, because a decently equipped M235i is the same price as an M2.

In defense fo the 228i/xi...

The 228i is probably the truest bmw in bmw's lineup. It isn't some bloated up marketing poodle. Thank to the turbo4 its light and more well balanced than the m235i that has some extra weight at its nose. 228xi is to be gotten with msport and track handling package. I think if anywhere, a 228i would be cherished in the gt86 forums because of its love for "slow" car/ fast driver. Also if u go with dinan, i believe u can get 290+ whp.

M235is halfway. Only if the M2 didnt exits.

M2 is a beast. But its a fast car, people magnet, and possibly 15 to 20k more. I am sure its worth it but i havnt driven one yet.

Yes they are two different experiences... i feel 228xi is a great well rounded vehicle, where as, an m2 is probably a great/fast sports car. I just want people's opinions on what they thought.

EAGLE5 03-04-2016 02:42 PM

We think you should buy a car already.

Good lord.

Just buy a car. In the time it's taken you to decide, I've owned 3 different cars.

Guise you don't understand, he needs to choose soon!

I apologize if this has been extensively discussed already but I need to choose between one soon and needed some advice on which way to go.

Is he messing with us? I don't think he needs a car at all after 3 years of asking the same question.

To OP: Go get yourself a NA Miata, you will thank me.

Both cars utilize a 50/50 weight distribution. The difference between between the 228 and 235i is within 1%, seriously.

The 228i is just too neutered. The M235i is praised by many. Having driven it on the track, it's great; I just wish it came with an LSD standard. My only complaint is that a decently equipped M235i with an LSD comes out to about 52k, which is MSRP for the M2, which is in a different performance league.

Furthermore, I don't know what a 228xi is; maybe that's a different region. But here in the U.S., there's a 228i and a 228i xDrive, which is AWD. If you're referring to the xDrive, the difference between the 235 and 228 in weight is less than 100lbs.

As far as aftermarket goes, we can't even discuss that because it's all semantics. Any car can beat any other car with X amount of dollars put into it.

EAGLE5 03-05-2016 03:07 AM

Yeah, get a Camaro SS.

gt8613 03-05-2016 07:21 AM

Things happen...

2013 - We bought a $45k vehicle for the family and then had to lend some money to a family member because of an emergency.

2015 - We bought a $60k vehicle.

2016/17 - I have an investment opportunity lined up. If all goes well, I will pull the trigger by this Dec. As of now, my shortlist is 2017 Brz (depends on what is revealed), 2 series (mostly M2), Camaro SS. I like nice cars... this may change based on what is available when I am actually shopping.

Really? Is your life so dull and stagnant that you think something said three years ago should be applicable today? Also, thanks for remembering what I said three years ago... how?? I mean, bravo... pretty good! Do you spend your time doing this kind of digging often or you just worked pretty hard here? Either way, all that time spent ...does your wife not give you blowjobs? You don't get no sex???
