May Be Moving to Portland. Questions!

Hello all. I might be moving to Portland in the next few months and am wondering how my little FR-S will handle the place. I've never driven in snow or even cold weather. I currently live in Arizona, so that's why. Will the winters be doable if my only vehicle is my FR-S? Snow tires? Chains? How do I winter?!

Thanks!

Well I am from canada and I drive my FRS during our 10 month long winters up here. It is totally fine provided you have the following:

1) Winter tires. THIS IS A MUST!!!!!!!! you dont need studded tires or chains just something like blizzaks you will be golden

2) Balls. You need to be confident behind the wheel and not panic when your rear end kicks out and you start to do a sweet drift. Just play it off like you meant to do it

3) Self control. It is very tempting to go drifting all the time in the winter, I wont lie I do it alot more then I should. I would not recommend this as it is bad for your car if you make a mistake or the police find you.

TL;DR Winter tires and your good to go

There's not really snow here unless you go up to the mountains looking for it.

I'm crackin up because Portland weather is about as tame as it gets. That's why so many people move here. The winters and summers are mild. We had one day of snow this winter. So don't worry about getting snow tires and having to learn how to drive in the snow. Your biggest issue will be the rain cuz we get lots of it.

Thanks for the input everyone. That's one less thing to worry about. Now all that is left is the absolutely ridiculous amount of money I would have to spend on rent. My company is offering a sizable increase in salary to move me up to Portland but I just don't know if the increase in salary is worth it.

Hadn't looked before but damn Oregon has high state income tax. They have no sales tax though so I suppose that makes up for it.

Yep! That is also something that I looked at. My state income tax doubles compared to where I'm at now.

Well you know, it is in our cultural DNA to revolt when taxes get too high.
