When do you replace your tires?
How much of the tread do you guys use before you replace your tires for spring/summer/fall driving? (Excluding winter tires)
I'm at 3/32" remaining on the Primacy HPs with 25k miles on them and I ordered some Pilot Super Sports, but I feel like I'm wasting $$$ if I don't use up my Primacys all the way. They could likely last 5k more miles which is about $100 worth of tire in my case. However, driving on tread that thin is dangerous in the rain, but it doesn't rain heavily often where I live (midwest). Furthermore, upgrading my tires will decrease my braking distance, which could prevent an accident. Also noteworthy, summer tires will improve my autocross times, but the Primacys are fun for daily driving. I know 2/32" is the recommended time to change and "legal limit", but do people normally push it and try to get every last bit they can out of their tires? Or is this 2/32" rule generally followed? |
It all depends on how cheap you want to be, really. I'd replace when you notice your safety being compromised

I replace mine at least once a year. I just ordered another 4 so I am up to a total of 18 tires in 3 years.

As soon as I send them off in style.....

My stock tires are at 5/32 and barely safe in the rain. I'm glad my summer tires are here but I'll have to see when they stop working before I know when to switch.
In other news, I have a good set of drift tires available for sale. |
The MOST important thing is always money. Dont let something like safety get in the way of saving $100. Yeah, that's the ticket.
I ride on my tires until you can see sparks fly, but that wasn"t a choice on the poll. |
