Tune Longetivity

Hello Guys.

I've been running Stg 1 91 oct tune 2.067 since August of last year. (B01C if you have to know.)
I came down from a Stg1 93 because it was too aggressive.

I noticed that nothing much has changed even on 2.074 tune for the B01C tune. so I haven't really updated it like a cellphone software.

Anyway, I am happy with my tune (only modified is the LC parameters) and have had no issue. I like the improved driveability and response of the car.

My question is, if you have a tune, how long have you ran that tune (Canned or custom) and have you had any issue?

I am particularly interested on OTS users that just want an improved daily drive. Did you just flash the tune then left it alone since then?

I will be runnning OTS Stg2 UEL 91oct soon and I will plan to do the same thing and just run the tune.

I've been running the Stage 1 91 Octane v2.061 tune since September 2014 with no problems. LC and FFS was not implemented at the time I flashed my car but I don't have a need for those options so I just basically stuck to the tune I've had since then.

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure they don't "go bad" like leftovers in the back of the fridge. You can run it indefinitely

You can run your tune until your engine implodes in a ball of fiery glory. There is no expiry.

My post is not about a concern of an "expiring" tune. It's software.

I am more intrigued on the side effect of a tune. A bad tune can be ran forever but you might not realize that something could be brewing bad in the internals especially if you don't monitor your parameters.

I just wanted to hear people's testimonials. Like I said ive been running a tune for a while now and had no issue.

I also want to differentiate the people that keep progressing their tune to the people that just got a tune (canned) and ran with it.

If you are worried about it just monitor your logs for awhile but if it has been running fine and no signs of knock are present then keep on chugging along.

I know you mentioned you're more interested in OFT users, but I've had a custom EcuTek tune (both e-tuned and dyno) on my car for a little over 2 years/~50000 miles with 1 year/~30000 miles of that being turbocharged and have not experienced any issues with the tune or lasting effects on the engine due to the tune. I'm currently sitting at about 360whp/275wtq and it drives like a dream.

Assuming nothing else changes without your knowledge your parameters should be the same new as in 10 years. The only thing I see being a problem is if your knock sensor malfunctioned or an injector went bad but really the tune won't affect that. Canned tunes will be safest because of how many cars they are being tested on(if someone had a problem then the tuner could connect everyone and update so there are no future problems) and are likely a little more conservative since they need to account for equipment balance between individual vehicles. If you are worried just run a log every month or so

ECUTek for the win

I have been tuned on ECUTek for almost 50,000 km's and I drive my car like a racecar and so far no issues now that I found a competent tuner

That sounds awesome. Your post is just what I wanted to hear.
I for one just wanted improved drivability on my car. I tried improving tunes but I dont want to get in that dark area when I really don't know what I am doing.

:thanks:

I ran OFT Stage 1 93 octane for 25k miles, and Stage 2 93 octane for 15k miles. Nothing but happy driving. Car doesn't burn a drop of oil, logs look good, car pulls hard.

I have a few friends on the New England facebook group who have 93 octane OFT tunes. Combined, all of us have about 400k miles on these tunes. Granted, that's a little misleading because it's split between 40 or so cars, but still, no issues. The OFT tunes are rock solid. Shiv is one of if not the best tuner for twins in world.

That's a hell of a tune you got if you don't use any gas

Thanks for the input. Glad to see a lot of people run it like it came out of the factory.
I dont doubt Shiv's capabilities since he does work for Ducatti, Porsche, and Miatas.
